Remember if you go via insurance your premium is likely to go up too even though its not your fault.
Worth bearing in mind as part of your decision.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -

Exactly - I am amazed at some of the tosh on this thread.
It's this simple....
1. Being hit by a moving vehicle when you are stationary is invariably their fault.
2. Insurers resolve these trivial disputes over blame all the time... let them do their job.
3. Failing to provide insurance details after an accident is an offence, and the Police will happily enforce. Contact them on the non-urgent number, and they will either deal with the other party direct, or possibly give the details from the database.
4. If you/he are with big insurance companies, then one/both will likely appoint an accident management company. This is where the costs start to rack up. Choose either company and get the repair sorted.
edit: Your renewal premium may go up, as suggested above. However, if it was not your fault, and you don't claim on your own policy, then your NCD should be unaffected. Therefore shopping around should reveal unaffected premiums with alternate insurers (this is what happened to me, anyway).0 -

Has a 'claim' begun immediately after the collision or once it has been reported to an insurance company or the MIB?What will your verse be?

Why else would you want their insurance information, if it was not for a "claim"?0

No need to involve your own insurance unless you are liable.
Your insurer still needs to know
Even when claiming directly against the other party, your premiums still go up
You still need to disclose this incident to any other insurer when getting a quote in the future0 -
My situation was very similar. Struck from behind having come to a stop on the road. Other party refused full details. Police called and sorted it.
My renewal premium nearly doubled (thank you Admiral). But because it was other party's fault, my NCD was unaffected and I was able to get a premium below what it should have been.0 -

I guess you really mean what they were trying to cream out of me?0 -
Thanks for all the advice.
I've sent a letter, next day recorded delivery, with the quote for the repair and the hire car costs to him yesterday.
No doubt he will be paying me or my parents a visit later on.
I'll try and keep this thread updated.

Get the impression it will all be a bit academic if the other driver just says "wasn't me mate". There appear to be no witnesses to the accident at all.0
