Room Sizes Only in Metres

I'm 29 and I use feet and inches too? We have been looking for a house and it gets on my nerves seeing floor plans with metres. I also like to know the overall square footage of a house.
When talking about weight, I would use stones and pounds.
I agree with the poster above re: talking in centigrade in winter and farenheit in summer.
What a complicated world we live in!

Without prompting I just asked my 12 year old daughter how heavy she was and she said 7 and 1/2 stone. Asked her if she knew what that was in KG and she didn't have a clue.
I'm 48 now and had probably one of the first all metric educations but it's interesting to see that 30 odd years later we're still using imperial measurements almost exclusively in some areas. Perhaps it should be taught in school more.0 -

...and then people complain about the Gov't defining a National Curriculum and telling teachers what to teach...0 -

Depressingly my students (aged 16 and above) generally have no idea about the metric or imperial systems. Asking how big a metre is will often elicit a shrug as a response."'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life

If I was the father that would have led to a complaint. As teaching metric is part of the curriculum (state schools) I'd want to know why they think they can ignore it (unless of course she isn't in a state school). It's someone else's fault.0 -
It's fine teaching metric but if the curriculum doesn't include conversions to and from Imperial then a schoolkid will not know what 7.5st equals in kg.
We were taught Imperial and how to convert, but never taught metric as a measurement systemThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
