Iphone 4S and Orange question
Options
My dd aged 15 saved her money to buy an immaculate Iphone 4s from a friend. Told it was locked to EE ... then EE said it was Tmobile and after a month of faffing around, they finally said it was locked to Orange.
Kids and I are all with GiffGaff .. so, Apple will unlock the phone for £99.99 - which I am not going to cough up! Do I get an Orange sim deal for her for six months and then ask Orange to unlock the phone for a more reasonable sum?
I'm not massively tech savvy ... or should I just take it to the unlock shop and hope for the best?
Thanks.

I had a Blackberry locked to Orange and the cheapest (and safest) option turned out to be an unlock with them.
Orange/T-Mobile/EE won't unlock a phone unless you have used it on the network for a minimum of 6 months, so going to an Orange shop (which don't actually exist anyway, there are only EE shops now) would be a waste of time and money.====0 -

I may be wrong but I thought the person who had the contract with Orange needs to contact Orange to unlock the phone (i.e. your dd's friend needs to contact Orange in order to unlock the phone).0 -
the friend who sold it should be ableto getit unlocked if it wa sin their nameWhat goes around-comes around0

It is supposed to be, but quite often EE will allow the request if the new owner has been using and topping up regularly over at least 6 months.
Even being the original owner isn't a guarantee that EE will accept the unlock request as they have a whole list of [STRIKE]excuses[/STRIKE] reasons why they won't do so.====0 -
Thank you all for your replies. I had gone through an unlock website after banging my head between two posts with EE/Orange/Tmobile. They stated that most orange unlocks were £19.99 ... some though were £100 ...
My DD's friend may well be the best bet, although since she didn't know what provider the phone was on, perhaps not. I don't think "old" phones are used in this family.
I commended my DD for such a "savvy" purchase, little did I realise the stress it would cause me!0
