Ebay fees on postage - Is this legal

I hadn't realized till a short time ago that Ebay started charging fees on postage. 10% to be precice.
Surely postage has nothing to do with Ebay. Its between the seller and the shipping company. How can they justify charging us for this.

I can understand the arguement that some unscroupulous sellers charge way above the odds for postage but if that's Ebay's reason for doing it it's not really fair on the majority who charge honestly I feel it's just not the right way to tackle that problem. Anyway, sellers who overcharge for postage will suffer for it through the feedback process

I'd like to find out if there's a way to challenge Ebay legally and have them forced to pay us all back just like the way banks have been forced to repay unfair charges. I'm writing this in hope that someone of legal standing will read it and advise

It's not postage, it's postage and packing.

    Why would it be illegal?

I noticed this last week when all of my auctions ended. I suppose because you can still make a profit from postage? I sold 12 items each with postage between 99p and £3 and it cost about £21 to post the lot.

Not a lot of profit but it's still technically making money.

When you hand your money for postage over at the post office counter, some it it goes to the post office, some to Royal Mail and some to the shareholders, and presumably some on an office xmas party somewhere, but you don't say, "Hold on, this is purely Postage money and can't go on anything else!"

It's just ebays way of fleecing more more out of people.
I don't think it's illegal, the best thing to do is stop using them.

Another thing... when the seller says Postage and Packing is "free". It isn't. They secretly added it on to the item beforehand and you have absolutely no idea what it is. ;)

You are well within your rights to take Ebay to court and challenge this fee. You'll need to take out a court claim for all your postage fees you want back, so if you've been charged ten lots of 20p that would be £2. Let us know how you get on.

Failing that, contact the Daily Mail.

Failing that, get over it. Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs also receive a fee for a lot of the post that is sent within the UK,this is called VAT. Hopefully that's illegal too and I can get a few quid back.
