Are you registered on their website? You can register for Paperless Billing, by taking your own readings (photographing them by date is a good idea) and entering them on the site.

I recommend that you carry out an initial meter reading yourself, but first register. You will need the usual password and email address, then you are set. I am an EDF customer, but they all do this. The website will have instructions in reading the meter and should show a picture of various meters, so you can recognise your own. I carry out a reading every 2 months, which gives me up to date billing information.

I am afraid that you will have a big bill to pay at first, hope you budgeted for it. As it settles down, you should have a forecast of next year's 12 month cost and the monthly DD you will have to pay.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

Thanks, yeah im registered..that's another issue, their site has been down all day too!

Well we have already got our DD setup which i think is too much anyway, plus we are currently in £200 credit from the past 2 DD's going in so we should be ok.

I know how much electricity we are using from our last bill but because of the gas one, i don't. However, with that starting from 0 it should hopefully be easy to work out

You're going to be in credit, it's the middle of summer.

Why do you need to know your monthly usage in order to switch? Just do it.

If it's the Indian call centres that bother you, I suggest you look outside the big 6. They all maintain overseas contact centres.

I dont think they are, when i called this morning they were definately Indian.

I also live in stoke on trent which is where the npower offices are based. Its been popular news round here that all staff did their last shifts last week as its all moved over to india

Fenton was not a call centre. Every time I've rung I've spoken to someone in the North East (Peterlee?).

Scottish Power don't, unless they train all their Indian workers to speak with thick Scottish accents :) That said I would still never recommend them, as the wait times are just absurd...!

It isn't materially more complicated - all that palaver boils down to a single (not a) constant. You don't need to worry about the calorific value varying - just multiply by meter units difference by 11.2 if metric or 32 if imperial.

But multiplying the reading difference by the unit charge(as suggested by JJ Egan) would give an incorrect sum for gas, therefore making it more complicated. (Granted that two multiplications and a division can be replaced by a single multiplication.)

I can confirm their stoke depot has not been a callcenter for years, it was all billing and metering. They also don't have out of uk callcenters
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • I'm about to switch from Npower but haven't had a bill since February, despite submitting meter readings online. It's says my next bill is due in September! However hopefully I'll be switched by then.

Often their website has said it's not working, however if I click on another link once signed in it has been working!

I'm expecting problems switching, but I'm used to switching providers. Ideally it takes 4-6 weeks to switch providers.

Until you have been a consumer for a year, you really cant say how much energy you are going to use, say in November, to March,

How it works is that the companies look to see how much you have used in the first whole year, and then forward estimate that it is what you will use in the year to come. then divide that by 12. That's where they get the figure from. If you use more or less than that at the end of the year then the figure is adjusted.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
