My dogs stay under the kitchen table when Im in the kitchen. They have been covered in corn flour and ketchup in the past as Im renowned for dropping and spilling things.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Do not lift a jar of eggs just put in to pickle by the little handle on the jar lid.
The kitchen floor (cleaned for State Visit) was then rescrubbed to new levels of hygeine, as one parent has acute sense of smell...

Don't lever the lid off a tin of treacle thats been standing in the back of the store cupboard for several years while standing over it.

The build up of gasses shot it straight into my face and resulted in blood everywhere and a very sore nose.

OH was really worried everyone would think he'd hit me.

    The treacle was fine.
    Better is good enough.

What is is with Bisto/gravy tubs in general? Why are the lids just a flimsy bit of plastic pushed onto a cardboard tub?

Don't drop a jar of gravy granules, it goes everywhere, and when you try and mop it, it turns into gravy streaks on your floor.

    Brilliant thread :rotfl:

OP mine is similar to yours - always check the oven before turning it on! My DS had been playing with flour, cereals, lentils and water in a bowl "making soup", but put the big plastic bowl in the oven when I had gone out of the kitchen, as he wanted to "bake" it. Later on I turned the oven on, and when I went to put the food in a short time later I was very confused to find melted plastic and flour-goop all over the oven. Not a fun clean-up.

Also, don't leave the butter dish on top of the cooker hot plate that you've forgotten to turn off and then leave the room. I hadn't realised butter was so flammable.

Don't turn your back on powdered custard cooking in the microwave, it's a pita to clean!

Don't decide to do some baking after you have just done a deep clean of the kitchen, the ensuing stress of cleaning again is not outweighed by the sweet treats!

Someone, (not me) put a plate on the hob that was still switched on. Just as the food was about to be dished up onto the plate, it cracked into two pieces.

Son put a frozen pizza in the oven without removing the polystyrene base.

Years ago, I used to cook the xmas turkey in a low oven overnight on xmas eve, so that the oven was freed up to cook all the other bits on the day. Hubby and I crawled into bed at 2am and were just dropping off to sleep when we realised we'd forgotten to do the turkey. We rushed downstairs to do it only to find that the new roasting tray didn't fit in the oven, so hubby had to get some pliers to bend the edges down to enable it to fit.
We finally got to bed (again) at 3 am!
