Ink leak in printer has led to huge repair bills - can i claim the costs back?

I wonder if anyone can help me? I have just paid a printer engineer £180.00 to fix my printer (its not a bog standard printer its a studio photographic one) the fault was caused because one of the ink cartridges had leaked inside the printer damaging one of the sensors. Given that this is a fault with the ink, can i claim the engineer costs back from the ink manufacturer?
Any help would be much appreciated

Unfortunately you're asking on a consumer forum so people here may not have too much experience of business to business contact law.0

Although it's too late this time you may want to use this site in the future. It's one I use and they do offer to repair your printer if it goes wrong with ink supplied from them.

It's extremely unlikely that you will have a successful claim for a couple of reasons.
It sounds as if the printer is being used for business purposes which means that the majority of the rights given to consumers under the Sale of goods act wouldn't apply as the purchase of the cartridge would have been a business to business transaction.
Because of this, the main rights that you would have would be those agreed at the time of purchase and also whatever the terms of the ink cartridge warranty state.
I wouldn't be surprised to find that the warranty (if there was one) states that any liability is limited to the price of the cartridge itself and also that any damage or failure should be reported before getting any remedial work carried out.
However, there is certainly nothing stopping you from contacting both the company that you purchased the cartridge from and the manufacturer of the cartridge to see what they say.0 -
Your to late anyway, by instructing your own engineer you did not give them the chance to rectify the problem.
That being said as it's a B2B transaction you would need to refer to the T&C's of the sale.0 -

They'd have to really as using their cartridges usually invalidates any manufacturers warrantyAccept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
The manufacturers warranty, if any, would still be valid, in the B2B transaction. It would now depend if the manufacturers inks were being used at he time of the spillage!

But alas, as the business sought its own redress, I doubt the warranty, if any old before use now!0
