ANY travel insurance that does NOT exclude alcohol consumption?

Options
I'm struggling to find any travel any company that does not exclude covering your claim if you have consumed alcohol. I'm looking for single cover travel insurance for my 18 year old son going on a holiday with his friends and its proving impossible. Does anyone know of any travel insurance provider that does cover alcohol consumption - ie, you've broken your leg (for instance) whether it was your fault or a 3rd party but you'd consumed some alcohol. I have posted this in the insurance section too but as its related to travel I thought I might stand a chance of someone on here having experienced this.

    I dont know your answer.

BUT do you think an insurance company should cover a teenager for being drunk and disorderly?

I got drunk (well a few times) and ended up in a cell when I was 18, after being run over by a car.

    Guess whos fault it was.

However, most people drink at least a moderate amount. The OP is concerned that this would be used as an excuse to refuse payment, even for an incident that was not alcohol-related.

A few years ago my son fell through his glass balcony door in Magaluf. He says he hadn't drunk much (they had just arrived!). Not sure whether this was true as I wasn't there. He had to pay for the door (we had to send him money). I don't think his insurance would have covered this. His medical costs were covered by his E111.

Agreed, but many 18 year olds drink much more than a moderate amount and i can understand why an insurance company may not want the risk

I predicted I might get replies like this which aren't at all helpful. If you makes your high horse feel any higher, I don't like the idea of him going on holiday with his mates and what he might do, but he is of adult age and I'm just trying to get him insurance cover that will cover eventualities I 'think' might occur. Even if that means paying a premium price as its a high risk age group for holidaying - similar to newly qualified teenage drivers having to pay a high price.

I just wondered if anyone had experience of this and could point me towards some potential cover.

Thanks for this info NeedAHoliday. Very useful info. Your son was lucky he didn't need repatriating, as E111 (Ehic) doesn't cover that. Which is why, I guess, we all need appropriate insurance.

if he has consumed to the point of still being compus mentis and can still behave in a way that does not make anyone think that he's had too much then he'll be fine. If he's out of his skull and has some sort of accident I cannot imagine any insurance cover being valid. Does he understand this - have you discussed the way insurance works with him?
