Unprofessional estate agent that swears

I called in my estates agents today to get an update on my purchase.
While I was there coincidentally my buyer rang for an update too. After he had finished talking to her he said "she's getting on my effing nerves"I was totally shocked and didn't know what to say. I have already had to complain about the service we have received or rather lack of it now don't know what to do
If i knew the answers to all the questions i wouldn't be on here :p

Either explain to the agent that swore that you do not expect that type of language or change agents.

We're all human, we all make mistakes and I agree it's not very professional BUT it's something that can easily be dealt with as above. If it really is that big of a deal for you, get a new EA.

Report them to the effing official organisations they belong to. You'll find the names of these plastered on their details.

I presume he said the full word, not just 'effing'?

Frankly, life is too short to get worked up about a single swearword. Not least because you are about to exchange contracts. Suck it up and don't ever rock the boat at this stage.

If you really want to do something, write a stiff letter to the manager once you have completed (yes, I'm neurotic; I'd wait til then rather than just exchange). However, the letter will end up in the bin, and I doubt any action will be taken, although the manager may call you a "stupid @@@@" and the sales agent will agree, adding a few more expletives.

    Rise above it!

now days seems to be nothing but chavs selling houses....at least up north, would assume things are much more straight laced down south where they will be making more commission......was it 'your'move' estate agents by any chance? i could tell you things that would make your head spin and that was me buying a house by them!!! the seller told me stuff that blew me away as well....terrible place.....would sell their mothers down the river to get a sale....

bottom line though a little swearing is fine, your not going to change estate agents so close to the finish line, you just put it in memory and tell anyone else that they best use someone else.....he was prolly more likely trying to show off and show you he cares than anything else....

all the best and goodluck on the sale!

Frankly, I've had the odd occasion where someone at work has had me swearing. Bad form to do it in front of other clients though.

Agree with the suggestion to ignore it until after completion. If it still bothers you, write a letter of complaint then. Definitely not worth rocking the boat until then. Of course, when they receive your letter there'll probably be some more swearing...

Most productive thing you can do is ensure you don't use the same EA if you move again in the future, and tell family and friends not to use them either.

Not sure what you hope to achieve from complaining really. It's pretty unprofessional behaviour but on the other hand if he's sold your house in a timely manner then presumably that's the most important thing to you. You might want to write a letter once everything has completed but until then I'd keep schtum.
I'm proud of my advice, if others want to look I say enjoy the show!

You're right that it is unprofessional, mbut unless he was also rude *to* the buyer, as opposed to simply being rude *about* them, it should not prejudice you.

If you are concerned, then raise it with the manager, either now or after completion. It's valid feedback - that you felt it was unprofessional and inappropriate for him to make that comment to you, particularly using those words.
All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)
  • You think that's bad... Mt Estate Agent is constantly texting (yes texting) me asking me out for dinner!

I explained I'm not interested yet he has asked a number of times. I've tried to be direct, yet polite as I obviously need him to sell my house but luckily I only signed a two week contract so I'll be going elsewhere soon.

Annoyingly, the house I'm buying is from the same Estate Agent so I will still have to deal with them.
