payg v moto g query
Options
I tend to use my phone as a watch/emergency camera/mp3 player/free wifi user rather than anything else. I've always had contract phones but the one i've got now a samsung galaxy ace has died on me and i'm not sure whether to get another contract phone or payg. I'm a very low monthly user - say 60 mins, 100 txt, negligeable internet as I use free wifi- so wondering whether to go payg but it seems you have to buy payg in monthly bundles whereas i'd just want to be billed for what I actually use, is there no payg phone you can get that does that? I've never paid more than £10 a month and seems for £10 a month I may as well get the contract moto g with Tesco which still has lots more mins etc than I use.

so around £100 over 24 mths nearly then there's the price of a reasonable phone on top, that's why I say it's a difficult call compared to the moto g for £240 and that'd give me loads more mins and txt and data capacity 'just in case'0 -
I don't know if its still available but Virgin used to have a pasygo tariff that payment was taken by a variable monthly direct debit.0

Yes I agree. My friend just took out a contract for the Moto G as it was cheaper to do it this way than buy the phone outright and then pay for PAYG.0 -
You don't need to "buy payg in monthly bundles", these bundles or goodybags are extras you can buy on top of your standard PAYG credit, and they only last one month, whereas you can just top up your PAYG credit and it lasts until you use it up.
So if you are only using just under £4 per month (based on grumbler's 3 PAYG figures), if you put an initial £20 onto your 3 PAYG sim, it'll last you 5 months. You can buy a Moto G for £100, so that's £200 for two years.
It is slightly dearer to do it the contract way, not a great deal dearer, only £40 over the two years. It's up to you if you want to pay that for the 'security' of having a whole lot of texts and minutes that you'll probably never use.
I'm a similarly low user (I estimate I'll use £3 per month on 3 PAYG), and am trying out the PAYG option first. In a year's time, if I find I'm spending more than I thought, I'll reconsider and look at a cheap contract.0 -
Another factor is i'd have to pay £20 if I switch to tesco now as ive 60 days left on contract so another possibility for me is nokia lumia 630, I can have that on 24 mths for £204 as an upgrade with talkmobile - 175 mins, 3000 txt, 250 mb - and which you can add storage to unlike moto g but doesn't have a front cam (tho thats never bothered me before!) , not sure what other noticeable differences there'd be to an old technophobe like me0

Well, on this thread, d123 tells us that the 512 MB of RAM is 'sub-standard spec' on the £40 phone I championed, so it's going to be devastatingly inadequate on the quad core Lumia
Actually the Huawei also has a screen of 854 x 480 pixels, so why pay more than double for the Lumia? Its 1.5A battery can be replaced (unlike Moto's) and it has an SD slot too. Just borrow a qualifying SIM and get this phone from CPW unlocked, then put your Tesco SIM in.0 -
If PAYG and contract are similar in price for your usage, why even consider contract?
With PAYG you can change network anytime, with contract you are trapped for 2 years.
If your phone is lost or stolen, huge bills with contract but only a few £ with PAYG.
Why would anyone want the stress of contract until the savings were huge enough to compensate?0
