Dilemma - I hate my new job

Thanks for the advice everyone
Sorry I haven't been able to reply, I've not had access to my computer (I'm using my phone atm). I am a rather impatient personbut I've never really been like that it any of my jobs...
I had a bit of an anxiety attack before I went to work yesterday morning so my OH walked me there, and I'm not that keen on going in today, but I know I have to. I haven't taken any time off sick since I started working in my building (almost a year ago) and I don't want to start that now!
I think somebody mentioned whether I'm interested in the work my office does, but unfortunately not. I work in banking/legal and having read some of the paperwork they have to do it's REALLY boring
I do realise it was a culture shock, as my previous job was so laid back, but I didn't think I wouldn't like my new job. I've done office admin before, so I naively assumed it would be alright.
Yes everyone wants to have money and nice things, but that's not what's really important. I'd rather live to work every time!
I'm not going to go back to my old company, as somebody said, it will look bad both on me and my ex/new employers. But I don't know what I should do. I moved 10 months ago to take my first job, then I got this one. It will look really bad on my CV if I want to jump to another job. It wouldn't have looked so bad if I was moving from my old job
I'm puzzled, you really don't come across as someone who's philosophy is to "live to work"!0 -
That's how I feel, I go through moments of hating my job, to moments of 'it's not too bad'.
My advice, would be take each day as it comes. Don't look at next week still being there, or next month still being there.
Get up in a morning and go to work, do you day there, try to be soooooo busy you can't clock watch for hometime and then come home and SWITCH OFF - don't think about tomorrow going back - not until the alarm clock goes off in the morning and you get up to do it again.
Do you have lunch with anyone at work? Have you managed to speak to anyone, sometimes that can ease you in to a job, not making friends for life, but so you have someone to talk to at lunch or even as you're leaving.
Work is a social environment, it's a business and if you've been used to a relaxed one then of course it's hard. But you must rememeber why you left your old job - you seem to be thinkin gof it as a wonderful place, if that was the case you'd still be there.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -

I was the one asking if you like the work the office does and the reason I asked was if you did to stick in there as it could lead to a more interesting job and career. However as you don't like the work they do then I think you really need to think about the kind of industries you are really interested in and try and start networking with people with jobs in those industries and keep an eye out for jobs in them.I'm not going to go back to my old company, as somebody said, it will look bad both on me and my ex/new employers. There is a concern it will look bad on your CV and it may be worthwhile trying to stick it out for a year for that reason. However I wouldn't stop looking for another job just because of that. As long as you can explain to them you are trying to move because you are more interested in their industry and show enthusiasm they may not care so much you are trying to move so quickly.Starting Mortgage Balance: £264,800 (8th Aug 2014)

Why are you in a job you clearly don't like? I understand you moved to be with your OH but unless you are really stressed out at work, people bullying you for example or your workload is massive to the point where you cant cope you shouldnt be having anxiety attacks at the thought of going to work.
It happens that people go to a new job thinking its going to be great and when they get there its the exact opposite, but unless you can afford to resign you are going to have to think of ways to get through this without it affecting your health.
If office/admin work isnt for you start thinking of things you do want to do and start making plans about how you achieve it.0 -
What SPECIFICALLY is it about this new job that you don't like?
This is only week 3 - have you had enough time to form a true picture?
What are the good things about the job? Concentrate on those and make the most of it.
To be honest, your other threads do show you are constantly wanting more than you have.... you were going to buy a business, then you weren't... you wanted to retrain... posts about lack of opportunities etc.
Do you actually know what you want from life? Really KNOW? Until you figure that one out, you'll never be content with your lot.
Plus, you need to be realistic about what you want and what is achievable... you only moved across the country to be with your BF a year ago. You were expecting career progression in your new job after only a few months... you were thinking about buying a business with no experience and very little financial input... I think you are expecting to run before you can walk.
You need to take a good look at yourself, your hopes and dreams, and then decide what you want and need to do. Until you are happy with yourself, you'll never be content in other areas of life.:hello:0 -

I read it as that's what she'd like to be. She wants a job she loves and gets excited about rather than one where she just gets through the day in order to have nice things outside work.
Is that right OP?0 -
On another thread you referred to your previous job as boring and before you moved you knew youd be doing more work for the same low pay.
Its time to have a think about whether you want to do more study, start your own business or even think about taking on a second job that you will enjoy to bring more money in and actually do something that gives you more fulfillment than your job does at the moment.0 -
Have you settled in well to the area outside of work? Have you met some friends, joined some groups, etc? If your life outside of work isn't panning out as you thought you may be expecting work to deliver far more than it can.
I'm not keen on my job, some days more than others. I don't particularly like the work but I like the other aspects (the money is not amazing but is enough for me, the hours are good, it's flexible, it's close to home, etc). Having given it some thought lately and had a look at what else is out there I've decided that these are the factors that are important for me right now. I might not have the most exciting days (ha!), but I'm home by 4.15pm and don't give work a second thought as soon as I leave... that'll do me for now.0
