CPR Call Blocker Appreciation Thread -list scamming, spamming & annoying callers

I recently bought a CPR call blocker machine (v2.01) -up to now I've been using my Panasonic which has a limit of 30 blocks (newer model has 50). BT also do a DECT phone but it has a laughable 10 blocks. The CPR comes with 200 already blocked and you can block 1000 numbers...
...we're gonna need a bigger boat
My phone provider (TalkTalk) offers free blocking -again only 10. They do have a handy free withheld block and they give the caller a 'This number does not accept withheld calls' which is better because the CPR just cuts them off (they may think there's a fault). Only change I'd like to see on the CPR is for the [blocked] caller to hear an engaged tone like the older Panasonics did -even more annoying for the caller.
The CPR v2.01 also allows wildcard block so 0845***, 0161**** etc etc. And "0" style, VOIP or international. Seems to block all scum so far.
Anyway, why don't we start a thread with known annoyance callers? Yes, debt collection companies may well have a right to phone (if it's a valid debt) but I think it's more than reasonable to stop them or anyone else. After all, we wouldn't answer our door to these people (or at least we shouldn't).
I'll start the ball rolling with:

i also have the same call blocker and cannot fault it. in just weeks i have blocked 21 numbers even though i am registered with TPS, a lot of the callers try to get round TPS by stating they are 'survey calls'
the v201 also lets you see how many times a blocked number calls,
havn't added to your numbers because i am not sure which numbers relate to which category above, but none of my blocked numbers are debt related calls0 -
A lot of our callers show as INTERNATIONAL on our landline phone. Many are spammers, selling PPI solutions, house improvements etc or even calling from 'Microsoft'.
However, many are from family and friends abroad, and there is no way we would want to block these!
My mobile phone shows the number of callers from abroad. Why can't BT? Is there any way we could use CPR to block unwanted international callers? I doubt it but thought I'd ask just in case.0 -

my landline is Virgin all my nuisance calls have come through with a number showing on the caller display.
when we have friends call from around the world their numbers always show as well.
i have witheld numbers barred direct with Virgin not sure that would make a difference though with any international calls showing their numbers
http://www.cprcallblocker.net/index.html have an online chat or 0800 number if you wanted to ask them any questions direct0 -

There's an option on the cpr to block "all unavailable/IP dialling systems/overseas nuisance call centres".
I'm using the option, and it seems to stop about 95% of the international calls ringing through. Like you, I don't want to block all international because I have family abroad.
The same international number has called me almost every day for the last 4 months, really appreciate that the phone doesn't ring and disturb me.
If you could live one day of your life over again, which day would you choose?0 -
I have the older one (for many years) and love it. Didn't know there was a new snazzy one. The satisfaction of saying 'your history!' just before pressing the block button is extraordinarily pleasurable.
I decided to keep the international block on, you just need to let overseas relatives know to send you a text before calling and you will switch it off, or in an emergency they can always get your mobile still (which is more likely than a landline anyway) and if needed you will call them back.
It killed 99% of those fake Microsoft your computer is infected calls from India. Worth every penny just for that as I was clearly on a lot of lists (up to 5 abusive calls a day). Of course your phone company can block international for you but obviously the CPR device gives you the power to block or unblock when you want.European for 3 weeks in August, the rest of the year only British and proud.0 -

The relevant option for me is 'Blocking all IP Dialling systems (skype / overseas nuisance call centres). Having trained family abroad in how to use Skype, I'm slightly reluctant to use this. I'll try it for a while and see what happens.
Thanks for the tip.0 -
It really isn't necessary to spend money to buy a call blocker.
All you need (which the vast majority of people already have) is a phone with an answerphone in it and caller ID. If your phone has different ringtones for different callers so much the better.
When the phone rings look at the display:
If it is a name/number you know, answer it.
If it is withheld/unknown/international let it go to the answer machine - if it is a genuine call they will leave a message, you can pick up the call at this point if you wish. If it is anyone else they will hang up - I have NEVER had a message left by these "spamming" callers.
I actually have a Panasonic "blocking" phone, but don't bother using that facility - my method is simpler !0 -

Hmmm. I hope this thread's not going to get filled up with general chit chat -let's keep it as titled -an appreciation of call blocking ie calls blocked not screened.
However, you do have a good point but you'll find people on this thread people don't want to be bothered at all -not one bit. We want peace and don't want to 'screen' anything. Just to be left alone in bliss. This is why I find the Truecall quite useless as it's as much work as your method really.
Nobody any numbers to block? I was hoping for a deluge but would be more than happy with a trickle! It's like the feeling of lovely sunny weather with no washing left to hang out as it's all done0 -

The trouble with a call blocker is that it doesn't block the first time caller - many of these pests have twigged onto this and move numbers frequently or generate fake numbers. There is no "work" to my method, I don't have to move until I decide that it is a genuine call, when they start to leave a message.
I found a better use for for the cost of a call blocker - in Waitrose's wine dept !:D
