Are you aware of the concept of reading the quoted post, as well as the post you are quoting?0 -
Neither do I, but as he's a member of my family is covered for third party claims similar to this.
Are you sure about that? Does 'member of the family' apply to pets, on insurance policies? There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0 -

Perhaps it's just where I live but they keep going and pay little attention and take risks with things around them (including running across roads). An example last weekend. I was standing with my dog with a group of other dogs waiting a training session. Along came a jogger who made no attempt to slow down and just kept coming dodging through all the dogs/handlers standing around. She slipped on some gravel, ended up kicking my dog in the process of taking quite a tumble and then got up stared at use as if it was our fault before running off.
My experience is (and I can only speak for myself and what I've seen) that most joggers tend to be quite considerate and will run around people who are standing "in the way". If you were standing on a path, I think a lot of people consider them to be public walk ways, implying people on them should be moving in some direction. This could have been why she was a bit upset with you (and she probably felt silly after slipping over!).
If I do see a dog walker, I will always slow down and run around them so as not to get the dogs attention (more for my benefit, plus it gives me a rest!) but not everybody will think like that. For some people, slowing down could ruin or alter their run and as long as they're not being careless, it shouldn't cause too much of an issue.
As you rightfully say, it is public land so should be available to everybody. It's just about being aware of your surroundings and those are you. As you can see from the responses you've received, different people have different ideas of what is acceptable!
I hope your dog was okay and it didn't make you dislike runners too much. Most of us are okay
Sorry OP, didn't mean to steer this thread off course...0 -
JencParker wrote: »Andyclockwise - have you actually spoken to the dog owner since this happened (you say you see them regularly). If they have insurance then it may be worth putting a claim in. Whether they pay or not will depend on the actual facts (both points of view and any witnesses), which insurance company they are insured with (if any).
What will you do if they have no insurance? Do you plan on suing them?
I do think though, that the best advice was that if a broken ankle will cause so much financial hardship it would be worth en ensuring you have sufficient cover in the future. This is just he sort of thing that could be a complete accident.
Jencparker - This has all been covered by previous posts. Unfortunately this thread has become bloated by people who want to make a point of their own unrelated to the OP. If you just read my posts within this thread you will see that your questions have already been answered. Thanks for the well intentioned advice about insurance, no help to us unfortunately.0
