That would be the person's own insurance, not the dog owner's insurance?

The dog owners insurance assuming they have third party liability which they really should have if they have a big dog that is allowed off the lead.

I do have 3rd party and a very high cover too for my dog.

Nothing like that never happened, I would nto walk away without giving my details to injured person.

Still - would like to see how a claim like that could be processed?

If it was my dog and he tripped you over (though I have a shih tzu and you'd be more likely to squash him as he knocked you over) and I was asked for his insurance details so you could make a claim for compensation, I'd tell you to do one and let you waste more money dragging me to court :)
I pay for his insurance so if anything happens to HIM then he's covered - not someone whose looking for an easy windfall, sorry.
Animals get excited - just like humans and accidents can happen...would you sue a human for tripping you over even if that also caused you to break your ankle?!
Agreeing with the compensation culture we are becoming is disgusting :x

Dog insurance is for accidents that happen to your dog yes, but it should come with (and they do more and more as standard) third party liability because if your dog inures someone or damages someone's property then you as the dog owner are liable.

I certainly don't agree that the OP is looking for an easy winfall, there is nothing easy about recovering from a broken ankle.

Really? Imagine your dogs runs onto the road, car hits a tree while trying to avoid running over your dogthe dog - you SHOULD have third party included in your dog insurance or how else will you pay for the damage?

I've never heard of 3rd part insurance cover by a dogs pet insurance -is this normal?

Frankly it was an accident quite clearly.
It's unfortunate the OP has suffered financially but throwing legal claims about is plain silly IMHO.
Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.

Quite honestly, I don't know if I'm covered by third party or not, will check when I get home.
Frankly tho, my dog running into a busy high road and causing damage to someones car and potentially there life is MASSIVELY different than being off his lead in a FIELD and accidentally colliding with a jogger :/

A dog can cover the 200-300 yards from a field to a road in the blink of eye. Jogger/car/OAP/child...whatever...it could be carnage. Dogs should be on leads when in public.
