I think the benefits/disadvantages of the new points scheme depends on your paper buying habit. So if you just purchase papers at the weekend, under the old scheme you would bank 250 points in total (100 points Sat, and 150 points Sunday.) As the points for weekend papers has now been reduced, you'd only bank 175 points for the weekend papers (75 points Sat and 100 points Sun) so 75 points less than under the old scheme.

Also, the 325 points achievable total is based on buying a paper everyday. So in the past, if you 'missed' a weekday paper, you only lost 10 points, now you would loose 20 points for the missed day, plus the 50 'bonus' points for entering a full week of codes, so one missed weekday paper would mean you loose out on 70 points.

Not criticising the new scheme, it's just that I think it will suit some members more than others depending on which papers you tend to buy.

For me, the points are something for nothing if you buy the paper anyway :)

Copies of the Daily Mail in Scotland have the numbers printed since Monday 6 October and the points value has been 50 for each day.

Crazy! Is that part of what Gordon Brown, Cameron, Milliband & Clegg have promised you north of the border?

I think I'd have voted Yes!

Seriously though - is that true?

Us down here in Wales are the same as Engerlund, we started up again this morning on 11 October and all we have got this morning is 75 points!

Trouble is its a dour and hypocritical paper that hates everyone and the only reason it tips the balance for me is a) the price and b) the points. Otherwise I would probably buy the Telegraph, (especially for the sport), or something similar.

Some of the campaigns that the DM have run have made very little sense to me. For instance the plastic bag thing. On Sundays what do all the magazines arrive in? Answer - a plastic bag!
  • I Posted this earlier this week ...
Just spotted that there are 50 points available every day this week for everyone, just go through the 'Missing Unique Number' routine.
... I will urge you all to try this if by chance you still have your old newspapers.

    Yes it's true.

When the Rewards Club originally started it was rolled out in Scotland first before it was launched south of the border. I assume that was to iron out any problems before hitting the bigger market.

Down side is no free 50 points like others have had emails about.

    Here we go again......

    I have sat codes.
  • I think what the Tory Daily Mail did last week was to use the Scots as guinea pigs to test how their new points system would work.

Similar to what the Tories did in the early 1990s with dreaded Poll Tax.

Since we lost the independence vote, I imagine we are now at the mercy of whatever else is thrown at us.

The independence vote was won by a majority of voters, not lost...and the bitterness of the YES voters since is quite frankly embarrassing.

How you can link the Rewards Club to the Poll Tax and the independence vote in three short sentences is typical YES mentality. Is your surname Salmond or Sturgeon perchance?

I just tried this and it worked!

But it only worked for the Wednesday and Thursday. I got told I had already entered the numbers for Friday which I hadn't.

    Monday and Tuesday weren't listed.

So I got an extra 100 points at least - I wonder why I couldn't enter Friday's - perhaps it's because of the email that was sent with the link telling you that you could have an extra 50 points?
