Harley been SORN. Now has MOT but unable to get road tax

My motorbike has been SORN for over a year. It is right now away in a garage having had some work done, serviced and was MOT'd on 3rd July. It is insured fully comp as I kept the insurance policy going.
I am all set to go pick my bike up tomorrow so am trying to get Road Tax online.
Directgov site is saying "MOT certificate could not be found".
I have managed to speak to the garage owner tonight who assures me the MOT was issued on the 3rd.
So why can I not buy road tax?
All I can think of is that an online tax disc is to start on 1st July, when there was no MOT.
How can I get round this?
The garage is approx 100 miles away, mostly motorway, so I don't want to risk riding home with no tax.

Have you checked the MOT status online yourself?

Ta Joe. I have checked that and it is saying "MoT certificate could not be found".
"If you have a MoT Test Certificate...
The vehicle details may not have updated on the MoT Test Certificate database. Please note that it can take 48 hours from the time of test for the database to be updated."

Surely I don't have to get the MOT cert posted to me and actually go to a post office?
That would mean I can't get over to pick it up til next weekend.
I am all ready to go get my bike tomorrow, and the garage want paying and it out of their workshop.

I've never known one not update immediately but I guess there may be cases when they get delayed. If it's not showing by Monday then give the garage a call and ask for the certificate number, then chase it with DVSA / VOSA

I won't have a hard copy of the MoT until it gets posted to me. Not worth a 200mile trip just to collect an MoT cert.
I guess a scanned copy of MOT printed out will not be good enough for the post office to issue a tax disc
Looks like my ride tomorrow is off then. Poo.

if they are the same as car mot's then all you get is a printout on plain a4 so e-mailing/fax would be ok.

everytime we mot cars they update automatically their & then on the database

Because it was abolished in 1937. :D

i'd get them to email or fax the MOT print out so you can check it, maybe they typo'd something and that is why it wasn't registered.

The MOT status is updated on-line immediately, regardless of what day it is. How much do you trust the garage doing the work?
