why do some travellers ignore liwuid restrictions?

It is now EIGHT years since the liquid restrictions have been in place of gels, liquids and pastes in 100ml containers or smaller and contained in a clear resealable bag.
When I went through Birmingham Airport on Wednesday, there were passengers having 2 litre bottles of water, 400ml bottles of shampoo etc off them.
There are messages everywhere including travel documentation.
I always followed this principle, if got an item in hold, put it in there unless I need it at airport or in airplane.

It could be one of several reasons - they may be a bit stupid, they may think they would get away with it, perhaps they are terrorists? Ultimately the only people that can answer that question are the ones that do it.0

Probably the same travellers who need telling personally to turn off their electronic devices, put their table and window blind up along with their seat.0

Stupid here.
Packed the suitcase night before but brushed my teeth before heading out to the airport........ so that the end of the tube of toothpaste I threw into the small holdall.0 -
It happened to me when I went on holiday, it's no biggie really, more so cos the airport was quiet but it's easy enough to forget about it - especially if like me you're permanently carrying a bottle. Security guys just asked me to bin it (which I obliged after taking a drink), no drama & no one held up - although I do get that it could cause problems at prime time!Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0

Some will be idiots, some will be in a rush and just forget, some will be trying it on and probably a dozen other reasons.
Mrs always prepacks her clear bag before even leaving home. A couple of times though she has found a stray nail polish or lipstick in her handbag (we fly 5-10 times a year) after having gone through security which neither she or they spotted0 -
Couple of years ago at Chicago a woman had all usual sized toiletries -not the small sizes- make up, cleansers, shower gel, hair stuff the lot.
The security guy made her take it all out- then after looking over his shoulder presumably to make sure his supervisor wasn't looking- asked her what was the least vital - threw those two bottles out and shoved everything back in and waved her on.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Seems daft that a useful thread like that should get lifted.0 -
At an airport a couple of years ago, I saw someone having a quart bottle of maple Syrup being taken off them by security.
Their argument was that it wasn't a liquid like water, so it didn't count !
They hadn't put it into their luggage due to its value and fragility.
The TSA would have been enjoying Maple syrup on their waffles for weeks.0
