  • I think Brown will fail to lower house prices. Governments never go far enough with their schemes. By the time a report is published the reality is usuallly worse so you are always playing catch up.

If Cameron wants to win votes then My idea would be a great scheme. Using Private money to create a social benefit. Conservatives dream policy no???
(And a reply to Gorgeous Georges post.)

--My tenant could not afford to buy a house but she can afford to rent my --BTL. Therefore, BTL makes housing affordable.

There are X number of houses and X number of tenants/Owner occupiers.
The market keeps the momentum going thanks to yorself buying to make a profit. So you own 3 houses say. That means 2 people have to rent!

I am not saying you shouldn't be allowed to invest in property. But how anout a scheme where you invest in a Part buy/part rent scheme where your investment is lower so lower risk and increases the number of these.

Around here there are almost none and so even those go for a premium. As do the very houses built for FTB (back to back etc) because they are bought as BTLs by people who are going to make a profit so can Afford to cough up the rediculous asking prices.

So incentives for investors who sign up to this and remove any benefits from people who insist on 100%BTLs

It really is all about supply and demand. The number of rental properties round here is amazing and it seems that gradually the whole locale is going to end up rent city.
