maybe the conservatives will have a chance particularly if they are looking at encouraging the family structure .

David Cameron is an out of touch, toffee-nosed snob. If I get married, he will give me £20 a week as marriage is the basis of a good society. No thanks Dave.

If prices fall it will be spun as great news

Spun!!?? No spinning needed. It WILL be great news. Our insatiable greed for credit will lead to the UK's biggest hangover ever and the sooner we see falls, the softer the landing will be. The longer it plays out, the messier it will get.

If Gordon can bring prices down he certainly won't be unpopular with me :-) the only people who will lose out are those who have invested in property for their own profit instead of as as place to live. E.g. BTLers.

Providing people have not borrowed outside their means and have taken care to avoid potential negative equity then a crash will have little impact.

Well said Peter. However, I have to disagree - I think the conservatives will change this country for the better. I live in a area that is conservative run and either side there is a labour run council area. I for sure where I would live!! Housing shortage really is the least of our troubles. You are right about debt. Where are all the poeple going to live when they start losing their houses because of the high debts they have run up on top of their morgages? Who pays for Bancrupcy and IVA's? We all do and things are going to start spriralling. You also have to think about the parents who have put themselves up as guarentors on their kids places and when their kids cant pay the mortgage and bills because of the high interest rate who is going to house them? It is not just about ouse prices, it is the overall bigger picture. I know someone who was given a mortgage despite giving up their full time job to work for herself with no regular guarenteed income!! Madness.

It depends on what demographic you fall into. The conservatives are notorious for looking after the middle classes and high earners. Cameron trying to connect with the working classes by using 'street talk', and 'hugging hoodies' doesn't wash with me. Hard working people on below average incomes, single parent families, and those with disabilities will get screwed under a tory government.

Personally, with both labour and conservation both supporting the murder of 200,000 unborn children per year, I can't support either of them.

But that's slightly off topic perhaps :-)

I suspect a HPC will lead to a recession, so GB will not be too popular if there is one. Of course, we're due a recession (these things happen) & it's going to be pretty painful when it happens, what with the £1.3T debt we've built up.
"Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
"I think I'll become an alcoholic," said Betty.

Don't forget... A mortgage is still debt... as is buying a car on HP... and so on. It's not all about overdrafts and credit cards.
