Hello Members,
I am considering buying a house in the South Ruislip area.
I wanted to know if it is a good and safe area.
Its me and wife and we both work in central London.
Any advice on this would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

Born and brought up in south Ruislip. Miles and miles of 1930s houses and very little else. If that is what you like then it's for you. The only excitement we ever had was when Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor had a drink in the Black Bull.0

Thank you for your reply bouicca21.
It was mainly the safety aspect I am worried about as have never lived in that area and do not want to go in a rough area.0 -
South Ruislip is not a rough area at all, I know it well. There are, as bouicca21 has already said, lots of 1930s houses, most are 2 bedroom originally, some with 3 due to conversions, moving bathrooms downstairs etc...
The area is quite pleasant, there were lots of street parties for the Queens Jubilee (which I think is a sign of a good neighbourhood). Lots of nice parks etc and generally a community feel.
One think to bear in mind though is that South Ruislip is under the flightpath of RAF Northolt (coming in to land if I remember correctly) which handles quite a few civilian flights per day. The planes are quite small though but can be noisy especially if you are right underneath! When the RAF Typhoon jets were based there for the Olympics they had training there for several days - quite spectacular but very noisy!
Feel free to PM if you have any specific questions about the area.0 -
I have lived very close to Ruislip for nearly 20 years and its mostly quiet and safe great transport links and close to A40M and M25 plenty of small shops in Ruislip itself. Plenty of nice parks and whenever there is a fly-past it comes right over us . My daughter lives nearby under the flight path but doesn't find it too noisy.
It is definitely not a rough area. Ask away if you have questions.#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Thank you guys.
I am finding it difficult on how to find if a house is under the flight path.
I am looking for a property near Frazer Avenue HA4.0 -
If it helps when I travel to London by car I used to park in South Ruislip and get the tube in (weekends when there is no restriction on parking have also used the car park next to Sainsburys once on a weekday). It has always seemed a safe area to park the car, just off the A40 also handy to sit and wait for flights to land at Heathrow before completing the journey to pick people up.
Now use a different area of London for parking so my wife can visit a Russian store in that area, it seems a lot dodgier but the people in the Russian shop can keep an eye on the car.
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0 -

Well that'snot directly under the flight path but not far off so you will get some aircraft noise . It all depends on how much you want to live there I guess, you would soon not even notice it and they aren't allowed night flights.#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

We have planes flying pretty much straight over us - it's less than 2 miles to the start of the runway and when you get to the top of the hill (about half a mile), it looks like the planes are landing just behind the trees! They are noisy at first but you tend to drown them out in next to no time. The only downside is the neck ache I get from staring at them - even though I've lived here for almost five months, I can't help but watch them as they fly past! :rotfl:0
