Passport Application delay cost me my holiday

instead of cancelling your holiday you could have paid for the 1 day service when it seemed your passport wasnt going to arrive in time0

My colleagues laughed at me when I renewed mine in April when I'm not going until November... glad I did now

I am sure you have heard on the news but I am an actual victim. Been calling the office all week and had to completely cancel holiday to avoid risking the entire lot being lost. I have lost £1300 as a result of the incompetence of the passport office.
Is there anything I can do about this? Go to the press? Take them to court? I am willing to do whatever it takes to get justice against them.
You won't get anywhere by taking them to court. Courts are expensive, slow and often incompetent, and you will only spend more money than you have already lost. I know this from personal experience, as I am now seven years into what was a simple claim
You might get a local newspaper to print your story, but IMO that's about all. Of course, the Passport office will add their twopenceworth and say "we advise people to ensure they have a valid passport before booking"
Unless, BBC Watchdog or Dominic Littlewood are prepared to investigate, (which is quite unlikely) then sorry you've had it.0 -

maybe 99% are now done within 3 weeks - yours might be among the 1% that wasn't.
It really is no fault of anyone else's - especially 5 weeks ago. The news was already full of the delays at the passport office then. I chose to get mine renewed using the premium service last month precisely because of the news about the delays to the passport turnaround times.0 -
It's the same with visas, people sometimes are refused an ESTA for the USA then have to go the long winded time, consuming and expensive visa route.
Always get ALL paperwork in place before you book your hoilday.0 -
Terms and conditions when you book a holiday state you have a valid passport, you sign to say you agree with these terms. Also you can renew up to 9 months before it expires and it's added to the length of your passport
Would be very surprised if you get anywhere to be honest0 -
I get your frustration, my gf and I are due to fly off and getting very worried about this.

Why did you book a holiday before you had the legal documentation needed to enter another country in your hand?
If it goes tits up, you've only got yourself to blame.0 -
I feel sorry for you.0
