Unfortunately as you've found out buying from a dealer doesn't make it any more reliable or less likely to have faults to fix over time. I guess the benefit of private sale is athe lower price gives more towards any repairs.

Has the car be regularly serviced at vw main dealers? If so and its a known fault then you may have joy trying to get goodwill payment from vw towards a repair.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

    Its a 1.9 TDI

Are you sure? I thought it would be a 2.0TDi for that age.
The 1.9TDi's are a solid engine. It was the earlier 2.0TDi that had a lot of problems. One of which is putting conrods through blocks.

Yes it has a full service history with VW garages. Someone on another forum has already tried to insinuate that its due to lack of services and neglect. Unless the log book is faked!!

Its definitely a 1.9TDI Match!!! Its not the model of car, its the specific BXE engines that had the same problem. Think they were between 2005-2008.

Thank you for that - it is EXACTLY the same. These cars all have the same faulty engines.

As the fault has yet to be properly investigated you can't say "EXACTLY" what it is can you, you can merely speculate.

Ahh the OP is right. I remember reading a few reports of Conrods leaving the blocks on the 1.9TDi BXE engines. Is that the 105Bhp model?
Mileage is all similar when it happens. Just strange it takes several years and a lot of miles for the fault to arise. I wonder what the underlying issue is.

If there's a hole in the engine, it's very likely to be caused by a conrod breaking - if a piston breaks down you tend to get a mullered head and valves but no 'exit' like a rod.
