I knew I was paying for the medication and the consult. That Is what I agreed to pay with the vet, nothing more or less. Also they keep records of who brought each animal in, I had to sign the dog into my name for that consult itself. The dog needed further dental care, which I was prepared to arrange but the vet told me all monies need to be paid upfront as I was going to ask for a payment plan.

Whilst you're well aware of the mistake they made and not very happy about it, you're neglecting that you made a mistake too.

I'd respond demanding a partial refund. Turn the tables on them.

You took the dog for treatment costing 22quid and they charged you a larger amount due to their messup.
Tell them to reassign the payment correctly and if a debtor has an outstanding balance it has nothing to do with you.

You paid for the treatment and have proof - not your fault they assigned the money incorrectly and charged you the wrong amount. Tell them you consider no debt to exist.
  • Come one now, the mistake I made was because of the information I had received from the vets. If I had any concern that I was being charged differently I would have asked there and then. I was told medication and consult to pay for, they gave me a receipt a statement with the payment on. Again why would not just file it away like I have done if I knew I had been charged incorrectly, especially as it cost me more than I should have paid? They are asking me to provide or money for something in my eyes I have paid. The outstanding balance was from early 2012, the dog went into the vets early 2013- surely they would have commented, since it's the only branch the dog was registered to? And it's a year since the payment should have been made. Added to that- it's not my dog! I have never been in the branch other than a concerned daughter with a parent as and when my childhood dogs needed to be seen. I'm an honest person, I don't like people cheating companies out of money, and I have been back into shops when I have been under charged. I'm not in the habit of being chased for money when I have paid as requested. Thanks for your advise, and thanks Arcon5, I will have to wait till Monday to speak to someone.
  • Furthermore I have received no breakdown of the outstanding balance, I do not know what animal was treated or what for. But neither the dog or any of my families dogs were treated in 2012.
I have rang the branch several times to be told the admin lady has gone home and they can't recommend any solution to me.

I agree in principle with arcon, although I'd approach it a bit differently. The vet should refund you what you paid originally, and separately you should pay the charges relating specifically to your appointment. The vet should recover previous charges from your dad.

I read it as the medication costing £22. There's still the cost of the appointment isn't there? I don't have any pets so I'm not au fait with vet charges
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

You can ask for a full history. Hopefully then you can marry it up. Or not, in which case perhaps they've boobed.

Sounds like the receptionist made a mistake and didn't add the charge of the Metacam on (£22) so you just paid the cost of the appointment (£49.66).

The fact that the receptionist made a mistake doesn't mean you aren't liable for what the outstanding balance is.

I wonder whether you would be as bothered were thi a child and not a dog.

Pay the bill 4 the dog's sake, which may be dead (or disablec etc) were it not 4 you caring and 4 the skills o hard working people
  • Well it seems from looking into the two statements that they have not charged me for the consultation like I thought they had. The rogue payment comes from 2012 so I'm not sure what's going on to be honesty I guess I'll know more on Monday morning when I get to speak to the office staff. Am I correct that business have up to 6 years to claim from you? Thanks to you all :-)
