Water bill using meter...need advice.

Hi, A couple of years ago we were put onto a water meter, they cut our bill from £32 a month to £19 a month using the meter. Then they put it up to £38 a month. Today however I got a bill for £66 a month. They told me I had arrears because when they were charging me £19 a month at the beginning I wasn't paying enough. I don't understand how they can say I only had to pay £19 a month, then put it up and now say I owe them arrears. I phoned them saying I paid by direct debit, never missed a payment ect, but they insist I am in arrears because of the £19 a month payments. Any advice please?

What did the bills come to every time they sent you a bill?

The initial payment of £19 per month is an estimate it can change quite drastically if your usage is in excess of what they estimate.

and...£19 per month is very low. What were the readings and dates? Who bills you?

  • I don't have the old papers to check the dates. Southern water. I know I'll have to pay it, I don't understand how I never had to make up for under estimation last period.

Did you check your estimated meter readings on the bill against the actual meter readings - and inform the company?

I would call them up my love and make sure the readings are correct, if you don't have the bills ask them to send you copies

£19 is low for Southern, are you a single occupier? x
