sudden water bill - newmarket, UK - confused!

I bought this property in newmarket, cambridgeshire during end of last year. I remeber the estate agent saying that there is no water bill in this area, but received a letter from anglian water last week asking whether this property is occupied & water meter readings which has first 3 digits filled by someone, but I don't know where the water meter is!

Anyone from Newmarket, Cambridgeshire - Is this water bill something new to this area, or we are the only ones missed for past 7+ months?

Where do you think water comes from then. Water either comes from a supplier (Anglian) ..... or your own well.

It doesn't appear in the taps and loo by magic.

Under modern legislation for accurate information, no Estate Agent would dare to make such a stupid statement.

Do you seriously think that water and sewerage would be free? How about electricity?

I suggest you have simply misunderstood - and there could be a number of explanations. e.g. A septic tank for sewerage, no surface water drainage charge, different companies for water and sewerage, etc etc.

Properties are sometimes unoccupied for years and it is your responsibility to inform the water company you are in residence.

Having not read the meter when you moved in and informing the water company, you will possibly be billed for some of the previous occupant's consumption - and have difficulty proving you haven't used the water.
