    It's a £500 car. Move on

Your £500 could be their £5000.

Sorry fail to see the point here, the individuals personal circumstances are surely no relevance to the appropriate legal remedies available.

It could further strengthen the MOVE ON due to the extra cost of fighting this and getting nothing.

Did you contact the seller ? Did you give him chance to fix it ? How long had you had it ?

Looks like 2 months, May till now.

Difficulty is that a £500 car will have a very different expectation from a £5000 one so if you went to court for refund you may not have much luck.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

A clutch or flywheel would not prevent the car from starting. Well flywheel only if the ring gear had gone but you would still be able to bump-start it.

Im not sure about the whole starting thing if I am honest, merely repeating the things that the garage has told me in many different messages, I do know that the fuel injector has been replaced and the fuel pump has been replaced, they have noticed the clutch sensor has burnt out leading to believe the clutch or flywheel could do with replacing?

I have contacted the seller, he said "its sold as seen, said so on the receipt" and has offered no form of compensation at all, he has also said "I'm not a trade seller that was my first car I sold" which if I had the logbook (still not received) I'd be able to tell! Thats not what he told me on the day though and he had other cars in his drive

Even if he is a trade seller you have absolutely no hope of getting anywhere with this. It drove around ok for 2 months and then died. Unfortunately this is the risk you take in this price bracket. If you had paid a £1000 the story would still be the same.

Do not waste any more time or money on this.

Even under the Sale Of Goods Act it appears the reasonable time to reject it is possibly considered to be around 3 - 4 weeks....

    "Returning a second hand car
If there's a problem with a second hand car soon after you've bought it, for example, the car develops a problem you wouldn't expect for the car's age and mileage, or it turns out not to be what you’d been led to expect, you may have the right to reject and return the car and get your money back.
But you only have a reasonable time to reject a second hand car. While there's no clear definition of what a reasonable time is – it probably needs to be within three to four weeks – less if it's an obvious problem.
And if you reject a second hand car you must stop using it."

You say you also do a lot of driving so high usage and high mileage probably give you even less rights even if its been only 2 months in your possession.

I'd seriously consider using a different garage.Replacing parts at random in the hope that it fixes the problem is a recipe for an empty wallet.
