Morning
I am trying to move the TV outside for a garden party at the weekend , we have the latest HUMAX YV box with BT
The HDMI cable between box and TV is obviously very short , so i was trying to unplug that , plug in an aerial coax cable into TV then into the antennea in plug on the YV box (cable is 10 meters long) , but i cannot seem to get a picture , when i tune the TV to the icon i think is correct , as in the coax icon , not the HDMI one (Bravia 3 year old) , nothing happens
What am i doing wrong guys?
Thanks

When I set my youview box up, I'm fairly sure that the antenna output from the box is purely a pass through (ie it just passes the UHF signal from the aeriel stright through). You have to enable this feature in the box settings. Not much point though as you won't get any youview features, may as well just connect directly to the aeriel.
Might be better buying a long HDMI cable.
edit: also, you're saying antenna in...would it not be antenna out? Still wouldn't really help though.Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0 -

Hmmm , yes , ant out , apologies , im at work now...
So there is no way to access youview features , as in recorded programs , when using coax instead of hdmi ? seems strange to me , surely i could have a non HD tv and YV if i wanted?Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -
Same as you Dan I'm at work so can't check. I'm 90% certain but worth having a look in your manual tonight. SCART is another option, or moving you youview box with your TV and using the long aeriel cable that way but you also have the Ethernet cable to faff with.Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0

Thanks Chaps
So its the SCART or the HDMI cable that = functions on the YV box ?
SSo , if (big if , considering the faffing about) i move the YV box and TV , and use the 10 meter coaxial cable to connect aerial to YV box instead , i can then use the recorded programs etc (but not Internet channels as the ethernet will be disconnected)
Is this about right ?

You need HDMI to access the Youview box material, as already advised on your OTHER thread.0 -
I can use scart to access the youview box material as well , no?
Its the recorded material we were needing to use , otherwise i wouldnt be askingNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -
I have a flat screen tv I purchased just to lug around the house. Sometimes I plug it into my laptop (using scart and sound sockets) and sometimes into OHs laptop with the HDMI cable.
When I do this it brings up a menu witha range of options prompting me to say if I have used HDMI 1 or 2 sockets or if I have plugged it into a pc etc. I have to select one of these options for it to work.0 -
Yep Dan, think you're on the money there. If you move the youview box, using a coax but without an ethernet lead you should still get access to your recorded content. Just try it before you do the move by unplugging the ethernet.Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0

Big long coax cable to Youview box. Short HDMI cable from YV to TV. Job done. HD Freeview and recorded stuff for your party, but no online as you say.
Freeview picture may suffer as a result of the big long cable.
Your Youview box doesn't have an RF (aerial lead) MODULATOR - it's just a pass through. You'll find that many modern PVRs, especially HD ones have got rid of the modulator. How many people are trying to watch digital TV on a set that doesn't at least have SCART, in a world where you can have a free 28" widescreen CRT off Freecycle or whatever they call themselves these days?0
