What is the best value laser printer long term?

Can anyone recommend a good deal for a laser printer? I will use it a lot so want it to have a duplex function to save paper, and for replacement cartridges to be good value. I'd like to keep it in the office upstairs and print from laptops around the house, so it will need Wi-Fi (as my router is downstairs).

    Colour or monochrome?

(I don't have an answer for you, but I'll be interested to see what other people suggest)

Black and white would be fine.

    One option:

An old refurbished HP 4000 series laserjet can be had on ebay for around £50 including toner. I bought one for my older parents who were fed up with constantly changing inkjet cartridges. Four years later and the toner still hasn't run out where as previously they'd be buying new cartridges every quarter.

I got them the 4000N which has an ethernet port for plugging into a router but you could buy a powerline adaptor or wireless bridge if required.

If I ever need a new printer for myself I'll buy the same type. This is a monochrome model though so the colour models are likely to be more expensive.

Thanks. It's an interesting idea which I will look into. Do these automatically print on both sides of the paper?

I also got a refurbished HP laserjet some years ago, though I recall it being a lot more than £50. It's been absolutely fine - the only problem being when it had to have a new fuser due to me breaking something inside it!

If anyone can suggest a decent low priced new B&W laser printer, however, I'd be interested to hear about it.

No I don't think that model does, but search on eBay for hp 4000n and there's a couple of sellers on there who only sell refurbished printers and you could have a look at their other models for sale.

No duplex: you'd need an HP4000DN to do that (not sure if they ever made them).

You might have a lot of problems with the drivers on newer Windows server and desktop operating systems - I know I did!

+1 for a refurbished Laserjet. They go on for years and due to the numbers produced, the price of toner & drums is quite low (in comparison with other makes).

Also the older ones tend not to have chipped toner cartridges so it is easy to refill them yourself.

I bought a Brother HL2250DN yesterday from Ebuyer for £72, which looks a bargain as it's gone up to £127 today! That has duplex and replica cartridges are around £12 each. No Wi-Fi, but it can be plugged into the router.

Brother do a Wi-Fi version which is the HL2270DW, that's £125 from Viking at the moment.

Another vote here for old HPs.

In work we've got a P1505N that's never given us any trouble in many, many years, and has apparently done over 120,000 pages. Compatible toner cartridges are available on eBay for just under £8 and we get 1500-2000 pages from each one.
