I rang AOL after promises of increasing my speed to 2mb but this hasnt happened and now I am told that this is the max my phone line will do eventhough previously they were prepared to offer me 8mb is this true I live in the country quite a distance from the exchange and I am getting a rubbish service. I am also having the same problem with Sky trying to get their cheap packages any ideas!

Welcome 4star,
The speed you will get is dependent on the attenuation and noise in your telephone line.
This table gives rough figures:
Attenuation.............Approximate Line Length............Potential Connection Speed
32db...................................2.3km.....................................16000kbps
35db...................................2.5km.....................................14500kbps
40db...................................2.9km.....................................11800kbps
45db...................................3.2km.......................................8500kbps
50db...................................3.6km.......................................6500kbps
55db...................................4.0km.......................................4500kbps
60db...................................4.3km.......................................3200kbps
65db...................................4.7km.......................................2000kbps
You could try ringing BT and ask them what speed your line can support,
or pop your phone number into the ADSL checker here http://www.btwholesale.com/getbroadbandThat gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
AOL put out a note a couple of weeks ago to say that the upgrade to 2mb is delayed until August. BTW which tariff are you on? If Silver you shouldn't be paying more than 14.99/month.Named after my cat, picture coming shortly0
