Cancun Deals + Is Cancun too far to fly for just one week?

Hiya, just trying to get things straight in my head. Want to take husband to Cancun at end of June/beg. July 08.
Two weeks is definitely out, since my parents will be looking after our children and it would just be too much for them.
I've got quotes for 4* AI, Rui Cancun for approx £850 p/p
Does anyone know can I get a better deal than this if I hold out? Also, if you've travelled to Cancun before:
Who did you book with?
Where did you stay? and
What did you pay?
Thanks in advance for any info!

Can't comment on Cancuun itself as I have never been but I have been to Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta and I would have to say for me it is too far to go for a week with a 5 or 6 hour time difference plus the flight. You would get there the same day you set off and fly back o/night but you could be very tired and that could knock a couple of days off.
It's up to you if you really want to go if you could put up with the flight / jet lag but not for me.**BERTIE**Did you Know: It costs more than £325,000 a day to run the lifeboat service? (with no government funding) Please donate to the RNLI0 -
depends what you want. Sightswise, then the chitchen itza pyramids are a must do, as is xcaret. Besides that we mooched and went on a speedboat ride, shopped, scuba.
Price wise it was £850 pp 4*AI, with first choice. Was here

not in cancun, but free buses every hour for the 15 min journey. Was a v friendly clean hotel, all you wanted and more for luxury...we got a room with a jacuzzi on the balcony that overlooked the sea
however, dates were went 21 june-5th july 1999 so prices are completely invalid now!
As for jet lag, I think it'd be worth it. I fly well and don't suffer badly with jetlag, so if you're like me, go for it. (mind you I did a round trip of 5 hours yesterday for an optional 2 hour meeting...well worth it!)Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

We did cancun for a week,
cant remember exactly where we stayed.
on reflection it was stupid to do it in a week only.
but we also had a 2 hour stop either way in newark airport in new york.
We enjoyed the place and hotel was fine.
it was 3/4 years ago now.
sorry i cant be of more help!

We travelled to Mexico earlier in the year (February)for two weeks
Initially we were going to stay at the Riu Cancun, but then changed our mind and stayed at the Riu Tequila which is in Playa Del Carmen, about 30 miles away from Cancun.
I think we made the right choice, as we travelled to Cancun for one day and went into the Riu Cancun for a drink (the AI wrist bands are the same colour) and were not overly impressed with what we saw.
Our last 4 holidays had been to Orlando, (very active) so to have a fortnight doing nothing did seem to drag a bit, and there were several people who were only staying for a week. I think a 10 day trip would be ideal as you could then have a couple of days to get over your jet lag before going back to work.
Have you tried Portland Holidays ? we booked through them and they were cheaper than Thomsons.0 -
I went about six years ago for a week. It was my first ever flight but nonetheless I still felt it was worthwhile only staying for a week and although exhausted when I got home really enjoyed every minute of the holiday. I would advise against all inclusive as you must get out and see all the sights. The best are Tulum, Chichen Itza, Cozumel, Isla de Mujeures (?) and old Playa de Carmen. You will be too wowed to notice any jetlag! We got a last minute deal at a basic three star hotel with private beach just up the road in the tourist zone from all the biggies. It was only £300 b&b! I guess it depends whether you want luxury or to see the country. I was hardly ever at the hotel, only to sleep. Why go all that way to lounge on a beach?!!!?But there are dreams that cannot be,and there are storms we cannot weather!0

We did Goa for a week which was a 10 hr flight and it was OK.
Re Mexico. You could do 4 or 5* AI for around £550 this July with

So Id imagine next year will be similarly priced0 -
a week is fine as long as you get direct flights, we were there last august for 2 weeks and did loads so in 1 week you will still have enough time to chill out and see some sites
Cancun is not for me but it is for others, we stayed in Tullum which was miles away and what we wanted but I think that playa del carmen is rally nice, it's much smaller thant cancun, still haves to shops and bars if you want them but also the quietness too.
I think that price looks a bit steep for just 1 week, I think you should shop around about, have you looked at theholidayplace.co.uk and kuoni?
I also think that given your time is outside of the school hols you could wait until nearer the time and go for a last min deal0 -
We went last year for one week. Stayed in the Occidental Grand Flameco/Xcaret. Simply the best holiday I've ever had - the Xcaret park and nightime show is out of this world. Would I do it for a week again ? - only if it was a real bargain. We're going to Cozumel island, just opposite Cancun in a fortnight's time, and I wasn't interested in looking for 7 days only this time.
It all depends on how well you cope with long flights... it's 10h30 out and 9h something back. I was going scatty towards the end of the outbound flight - but then we did go with Monarch, who at the time, had the most cramped seating of all the charter airlines. Not fun. Don't forget the time you take to get to the airport too - from leaving home to arriving at the hotel in Cancun took us roughly a full 24hrs.
If you're ok with long flights, can fly with an airline that has comfy seating and stay somewhere that gets good reviews on www.tripadvisor.com, then I'd say go for it. We're going for a fortnight this time, but only because we had that fantastic week in the first place and want to have more of it.0 -
I think it depends on where you've been before and how (if you've done it before) you cope with long flights/jetlag.
Really you're cutting your holiday down from 7 to 5 days going so far-Personally I don't have a problem with doing that but I know for other people it's definitely too short.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
