Yes, anyone going airside has to0 -
Now I am very worried... I have a flight coming up, from Aberdeen to London. I would have taken the train but thought that flying might be a bit quicker, but if there are extra security checks at the airport then it might end up taking even longer. Would they allow me to cancel, and get compensation for the inconvenience? The airline is BA, if that makes any difference.0

What inconvenience? The inconvenience of extra security to keep you alive?
I wouldn't worry about it. It will only be a few minutes extra.0 -

Always makes me chuckle when people see security checks as an inconvenience!
Why can't you just leave home a bit earlier/factor in the extra time needed?0 -

Are you serious?
it does say the extra checks are for flights to the USA, not sure how they are differentiating tho0 -
I would say it is most likely going to be that everyone has to take their shoes off, everyone will be frisked and spot checks done at the gate on baggage. This is on top of a slower rate of bags through the xray machines.
I would also say that there will be an increase in hold luggage being opened downstairs, looking at things a bit more suspiciously.
The post re extra security at the gate, it sounds like Schipol, where you check in, then go to the shops and at the gate you then go through that gates scanners/xray etc. I seem to remember that they are now removing these at the gates in some terminals and re introducing a central security area back, so it must have made things worse for them.
I remember the frisk at Schipol last time I flew out of there. The guy actually cupped my cheeks, inside my jeans as he did the frisk on my nether regions, had a really good feel ! I said ''Aye aye' and he smirked ! He wasn't even my type ! lol0 -

Say that to a TSA inspector though, and you'd probably get the full body search!
I well remember my dear old dad, many years ago, when I first started travelling to the U.S. on business, telling me to never joke with U.S. Immigration Officers when entering the country. I'd say that things generally haven't changed too much for travellers to the U.S. over the past 30 years or so, and I've often been over there several times each year. State workers at airports tend to be pretty serious people on the whole. There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not man the less, but Nature more...0 -
New update announced this evening...
Travellers to US must have a charged mobile phone. You may be asked to switch it on and have it confiscated if you don't comply.

Have you got a link please? I don't doubt what you are saying - But I am heading to Miami next week so looking for a bit of clarification.
Thanks.0 -

The US Transportation Security Administration will not allow mobile phones or other electronic devices on US-bound planes at some overseas airports if the devices are not charged.

Actually, this check, asking you to power up the likes of laptops, is not new, especially for U.S. flights. It's been happening for years, but maybe now it'll be a more regular check. There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not man the less, but Nature more...0
