Hi everyone!

Thursday 3 July is Plastic Bag Free Day (#plasticbagfreeday on twitter).

We're a fairly environmentally friendly team at MSE Towers, lead greenly by MSE Wendy, so we thought we'd ask you ...

How often do you use supermarket plastic bags?
Could you do with a Money Makeover?

How often do you use plastic bags for shopping? 78 votes

I never use supermarket plastic bags, I use bags for life or re-use old bags every time I shop.

Never. In Wales we have to pay for them so its a bag for life for me!

I almost always get new bags - and they get used for a myriad other jobs afterwards.

This whole carrier bag hype is just more boring, bullying 'Green' nonsense. There are serious ecological issues which need attention. Banning (or charging for) plastic carrier bags is just a distraction from them.

I have been using jute or canvas bags for about 15 years, long before anyone thought to charge for plastic ones.
I also keep a large box in the rear of my car which I fill straight from a trolly if I use one.

I moved to Dorset in Feb 1998, over 16 years ago, for years prior to that I shopped at Kwik-Save and they charged 1p for they type of carrier bags you get free these days and 3p for better quality ones.

I reckon Kwik-Save were charging for carrier bags at least 25 years ago.

I never use plastic bags. I use cloth bags or the reusable bags from Ikea.

That said, as I am not the only person in the household, plastic bags still find a way to sneak into the house.

When I have several of them I just pass them to the food bank, where they are always welcome.

    OK so shoot me.
You could also add Aldi & Lidl to the supermarkets that charged for bags, CO-OP and Safeway also charged for better quality bags but all of them did this for profit rather than enviromental reasons which is what the new measure is about and this was the meaning of my post.

i reuse all carrier bags i get free usually for rubbish they are a nice size for living room bin and bath bins. Rarely use black bags unless having a huge declutter. Also use nice big freestanding bags in aldi and lidl so we can pack at the till super quickly.

NEVER! for over twenty years I've shunned them, not just for groceries, but for anything I buy. I use my own home made fabric bags or cardboard boxes.
I can't wait for charging to come in. I'm fed up of having to jump in quick before they try to pack your goods into one of those flimsy plastic bags.

I only ever use jute shopping bags - they hold a hell of a lot for the size and no matter what you put in them, they somehow never feel that heavy....

I use old bags in Aldi /lidl, and get new from everywhere else as they go in my kitchen bin which is emptied daily
