I sometimes use supermarket plastic bags, I sometimes use bags for life or re-use old bags

I`d like to know how the "experts" decided that plastic carrier bags last for a thousand years. Have they found any thousand year old bags?

I bring a tote bag or a backpack with me when I go shopping, and use plastic bags when I can't fit everything into my bags or when I'm shopping away from home. I also use them to pack stuff that is not packaged well/can leak (fresh meat and fish, flour, etc.).

I live in a tiny space where there is no room for a bin. Therefore I use plastic bags as bin bags (they can be hung from a door handle and disposed of daily). Other plastic bags end up being used when I'm separating my laundry for washing.

Not even 1000 days!

Some Mr T bags bio-degraded themselves in a cupboard, I thought the mice had developed a taste for plastic!

Exactly what I did today, most stuff loose in the rucksack, milk double bagged to keep cool.

I never use supermarket plastic bags, I use bags for life or re-use old bags every time I shop.

I am in Wales too - but I bought nylon shopping bags ages before the bag charge came in anyway. and I think it was a marvellous idea - you can already see the difference as less carriers are discarded!

This is what gets me, I keep hearing people on the TV, and see people writing on the internet that the Uk is covered in millions of discarded supermarket carrier bags. Apparently the tree, parks and streets are covered in them.

But when I go out I never see any, even though I specifically look for them when prompted by someone on the net or Tv.

Am I just lucky and live in a part of the country where people don't discard carrier bags? Is the rest of the country really covered in them?

Do people really pack their shopping into carrier bags, get half way home and throw away the carrier bags?

And if they do, how do they carry their shopping home?

Or do they use the carrier bags to carry their shopping all the way home, unpack them then throw the bags out the front door?

You are looking in the wrong places. How about going to visit a landfill site? A canal? The tip?

I'm sure you'll find at least one there...

I was stuck in traffic behind a bus today. It was belching the most disgusting diesel fumes - undoubtedly carcinogenic and vile in every way.

What is done about pollution from buses? Nothing. Instead, like some 'find the lady' huckster fooling mug punters on a street corner, the government diverts the public's attention by the gesture politics of forcing retailers to charge for plastic carrier bags.

And people fall for it.

I use carrier bags to line my little waste paper bins and collecting waste cat litter.

I need bags of some description so if it's not the carrier bags, it'll be something like pedal bin liners
