A bill that, to date, has never been produced.

You seem confident that it'll magically appear.

OP already got at least one bill, but it seems more, and tenancy is coming to an end, so I'm thinking that a final bill is coming, yes. But you had read OP's post, right?

They haven't received a bill. I refer you to post #3.

They are paying electricity to the landlord, and they have received bills from the landlord.
What they have not seen are the bills from the electricity supplier to the landlord.

This is not the issue OP was asking about.

Are you being thick on purpose?

Am i mistaken in thinking new rules were introduced that tenants could choose their energy suppiers and not be limited by tenancy agreement terms which contradicted this? Which in theory would mean they choose to work directly with the supplier and not the LL? - not really applicable at this tage for the OP, but interesting for others in similar position.

One other question. The LL would have to produce a bill which is verfiably the liability of the OP. Which i think he's going to struggle to do. That doesnt mean the OP doesnt owe for the energy, ofcourse they do. But can the LL prove that their liability is for the full amount. - as speculated it could be one meter for the whole property.

I think the LL is either being dodgy, or naive. Either way, its alot easier for an energy supplier to chase a debt than a private landlord.

and the OP would only have a registered CCJ if they failed to pay as required by court. at the moment its a civil dispute, and the court decides that dispute. You dont automatically get a CCJ for losing in court!

Does the LL have a license to supply energy? Just a supposition here, but I'll go with no.

To repeat, the LL can't profit from it. The tenant is well within reason to withhold payment, until they see a bill, to confirm that they're not being cheated.

The LL could well take this to small claims for lack of payment for which they'd need to produce.....guess what?!

It seems like the LL has something to hide, as he will not produce the official bill from the energy company.

The OP should ask the LL for evidence that the sums being requested actually arise from the OP's use of electricity. Otherwise, the OP could be paying for the whole street.

If the LL has nothing to hide, he will produce the bill as evidence. If he does not produce the bill, then the OP should not pay.

If the LL then takes the OP to court, the LL will need to explain to the court exactly how he calculated the bill for the OP, and will need to produce evidence of the the bill from the energy supplier.

If the LL is acting legitimately, why does he not produce the bill? That would resolve the problem (unless he is hiding something).

No, the problem OP said he had was to be billed rarely so that bills were large.

Of course no-one commented on that. Just the usual display of mediocrity (I'm being polite).

Could the OP not find the switch to turn off the electric and see if the landlords electric goes off as well?

To expand, find the consumer box within your flat and trip the main breaker. Then go to your meter and see if it's still turning. If it is then i'd image the meter is shared with the other flat/house.

If it is shared then it makes sense that the LL would generate a bill rather than give you the bill he's received from the energy supplier as he wouldn't be expecting you to pay the whole bill.

However, i agree it would be good to see that bill so you can check that the landlords calculations are correct.

If the meter has stopped turning completely then definitely ask to see the bill as it will solely relate to you.
