PPI Barclays - Redress query

Hi there

I've just been reading over the notes on the website about comparative redress and alternative redress.

Wondering if I barclays may have swindled some money out of me when they gave me my PPI refund back in 2012.

The curious thing though is that MSE states that Barclays were using the terminology of comparitive redress and alternative redress from october 2012.

My letter dated 27 June 2012 says that:

"Having considered your complaint I am not satisfied that the PPI policies were suitable for your needs. As a result I am upholding your complaint. In doing so, I have concluded that all of the PPI policies listed were unsuitable, and therefore in providing you with redress we will include each of these in our calculation"

So, where do I stand? Have they done me out of some money?

Thanks for any help

Jools

That is an unheld complaint and would see full refund.

Comparative redress is used where a complaint is not upheld but it was decided that the single premium method was wrong and it should have been monthly premium and the difference is paid out.

Thank you for the quick reply. That helps a lot.

On a side note, I've been having a go at barclaycard for 2 years to give me access to my info on a credit card as well as a Goldfish card.

What did it take to get them moving? Called the press office and asked them to sort it. I said some other things and it spurred them into action.

had a call from some director's office yesterday!!!

It's obviously £10 cheaper to simply call the Press Office and harass them! ;)

Seriously, one might have reasonably expected someone at the Bank to have suggested this to the OP if he has been in contact with them about it for two years.

I did in fact send a SAR and it has now been rumbling on for two years with various excuses coming out from Barclaycard.

Going to the Press Office was the last resort after an exasperated effort to get them to do something.

Why didn't you report them to the ICO, who have the power to compel them to fulfill it?

Why? Well, the job that I do means I travel a lot and work a lot. trying to sort this out in between all that hasn't been easy.

I just did it as a what the heck reaction and it has promted a reaction from them like never before.

if today I went to the Ombudsman I probably be waiting yet another year before getting something.

Well, the quickest way to have done it would have been to send a SAR. If they didn't comply with it, you then complain to the ICO [via email] who compel them to fulfill it. All well within 2 years.

Might help next time if you investigate what you should have been doing.

And you haven't said that they have upheld your complaint, so you may well have to visit the FOS yet.

That's assuming your upheld post was referring to a loan, since they don't do comparative redress on CCs.

I did know what I was doing thank you very much. As I explained, my work takes me away a lot and being self-employed I have to make sure that is running as smoothly as possible.

In addition, when this was all starting my father was diagnosed with cancer which, as I'm sure you can appreciate, was foremost in my mind.

I had a phone call from them today and they are sorting out my stuff as well as offering me some compensation for the annoyance caused.

As far as I'm concerned, it's a result!

You sent a SAR but neglected to complain to the people who could have sorted it all out in much much less than 2 years.

You didn't know that comparative redress wasn't offered to you when you were successful with your original complaint because you didn't understand what it was.

You phoned up the press office and basically threatened them, and you were lucky to get a result because they could have just told you to follow the proper channels.
