Orange-Carphone Warehouse Contract Problems
hi i am an international student and a week ago this carphone warehouse salesman gave me a contract phone under orange without completing any credit check; infact when i entered my card in the system it kept saying further proofs required.. now i have an n95 on an 18 month contract which i was quite happy with... but in the last few days my situation ha changed and i have had to return home and will not be comming back to the uk... how do i cancel my contract?? i mailed orange and they said that i cant cancel the contract.. the phone is still in as new condition, still boxed.. please advise as to what exactly i can do a i will not be using a single minute.. infact i had to leave in such a rush that i didnt even have time to register the sim card or anything and the phone was not even activatived for use.. orange have not replied to any of my emails.

If you're still within 14 days then you can return the phone back to carphone without any charges!0

there is a problem with that; i took the phone out exactly 14 days ago... but as soon as i came back home i mailed carphone warehouse and told them my situation and asked them how i could cancel the contract and where exactly i should send the phone.. i never got any reply from them.. i even mailed orange and they replied saying that we dont cancel our contracts.. surely if i am leaving the country and they cant provide me the services they have promised i must be having some kind of a legal right to cancel my contract??? i really dont know what to do now.. i know a few international students who have taken their contracts phones with them back home with no intention of making any payments and keeping the phone.. i really dont want to do this and mess up my credit history.. please advise.. is there anything else that i can stilll do??0

if you can prove that you have contacted them within 14 days to let them know ur intensions then it should not be against you and you should be able to cancel it.
There isn't anything like Orange disagreeing to you for u not being able to cancel. Unless the T & C have changed recently with regards to canceling the contract.
Hope this helps!!0 -

Looks like your contract was taken out through CPW,
So you'd need to contact them to arrange contract cancellation.
You have 14 working days to return the handset i believe. the process tends to be initiated by a phone call to advise your intention, and this engages the process.
Not sure Orange will cancel the contract for you as it's an indirect contract (ie, not through Orange themselves, but through CPW)
