Tights v bare legs.

Options
I'm in my early fifties. Legs are not too bad a shape but usually covered by trousers. I do however have a lot of broken veins around my ankles which makes them a bit purplish looking.
I've got a graduation to go to soon and I have a nice silk dress to wear.
I've got navy court shoes so no visible toe issues.
Do you think I should get fine tights ( I reckon so, but don't want to look dowdy or be too hot) or get a bit of fake tan on and go bare?
If tights are right can anyone please recommend a nice brand or colour as I seem to end up with nasty beigey grey looking ones.

Is there an age over which legs should be covered?

As an ex-goth type in her 40s, I have the problem of what to do in summer with nice dresses too. I'm going to a wedding this week and will get some pale 15 denier tights in case the white of my legs is more intense than the bride's outfit. When I worked in a shop as a student and tights were mandatory, I had no qualms about wearing pop socks. Who was to know?

I would say either a very fine denier stocking or fake tan.

If you aren't comfortable with a fake tan then use one of the tanning moisturiser that just gives a slight coverage.

I don't think there's any age issue but I'm not a fan of seeing veins. I've covered my legs (tights, trousers or tan) since I was 30. Visible veins is very ageing.

I bought some 7 denier tights from Sainsbury to wear for my daughter's college graduation last week. They had two shades, one a little more 'tanned' looking and the other paler. I was a bit worried about getting a hole or ladder as they were so fine, but no problems :)

Thanks all, I'm a confirmed black tights wearer in Winter!
It's the colour not the shape of my legs that's the problem. They aren't varicose veins but broken veins and they are unsightly I suppose. I'm so sick of my own husband asking me " oh! How did you get that bruise?" The answer is the same every time..it's not a blinkin bruise!!!
    Fine tights shall be purchased!

If they bother you you could try colour correcting/ 'cover up' type make-up over them, under the tights

To feel properly 'dressed' I would wear tights.

Have a look in John Lewis/Debenhams/House of Fraser, they usually have fine summer tone tights this time of year, Aristoc or Pretty Polly are nice and not too expensive.

ASDA do a sheen tight that us fine enough not to make you sweaty but looks like your legs are lightly tanned and moisturised £4 for two pairs. I have glowing white legs and my friend didn't believe they were tights but a really good fake tan. They didn't have any in my size on sat so I went for The cheaper range at 5 pairs for £4 which where ok too.

Tights, absolutely! A graduation is, initially, quite a formal do and you have a smart dress.

Definitely tights. Unless you have very very good legs, or a very long skirt. Bare legs always look casual unfortunately, even on 20 year olds with perfect legs

Personally I like the M&S ones and for an occasion like this would go for the expensive ones (£5 a pair) - possibly glossy.

    Enjoy the day!

Yes tights - I forgot how uncomfortable they were but the photo didn't show them anyway.
Enjoy the day and brace yourself if you go for a beer at a local bar to show off the robes - we were at the barbican in london and 2 and a half pints was nearly £12 - ouch but so worth it to follow our son in the gear.
    xx
