a compulsory financial contribution imposed by a government to raise revenue, levied on the income or property of persons or organizations, on the production costs or sales prices of goods and services, etc

    Its a tax

So you can google the definition of tax, congratulations.

It's still not a value added tax, that you pay on top of the good/service provided. You don't pay for energy with tax on top.

When you pay a haulier to hump your goods about the country, they aren't mandated to pass on any increase/decrease in fuel duty. That's a tax on them. It doesn't transfer to the consumer, who pays a fixed price to the retailer.

and even it was a value added tax the point that past increases have not been passed onto fixed price customers makes this a moot point.

The point is intervention by government ministers who themselves explicitly wanted all tariffs to be adjusted. They are then embarrassed when private companies shrug their shoulders and tell them where to go. I see he still has not come clean and admitted his idiocy.

Fixed Tariffs that have come out post this announcement have included the reduction. The fixed market has been falling in price since December

Variable tariffs were reduce post the government announcement or increases pre announcement were restricted to factor the reduction in.

This can clearly be seen in the price changes for Q4/Q1 2014/2013

    BG
    Nov 13 increase of 10.4%
    Jan decrease of 3.4%

    Npower
    Dec increase of 9.3%
    Feb decrease of 2.6%

    Scottish power
    Dec increase of 9%
    Jan decrease of 3.3%

    SSE
    Nov increase 8.2%
    Jan decrease of 3.5%

    E.on
    Jan increase of 3.7%

    EDF
    Jan increase of 3.9%

Well Birdie et all the Government would disagree with you so I assume you are protecting the poor abused energy companies (I admire people who stand up for the weak)

"The Government sees no reason why suppliers should not be able to apply the same saving to fixed and variable customers, and continues to make this clear, but ultimately the decision over how to apply the savings is for the companies."
