Do you have the smoke test results to hand? If not, get them.

A lot of diesel cars have a basic smoke density check, this is different to "emissions" although the two terms are used interchangeably.

Unless it pours out black soot when you accelerate hard......... You may be being lied to, if I'm really frank.

Get a copy of the smoke test fail data.

Local garage here charge £40 and will usually pass and advise unless it was dangerous.

Always booked up weeks in advance.

This is happening a lot lately, particularly garages affiliated with the "good garage scheme".

you have fallen into the sharp garage practices.

as your vehicle is diesel they most likely not got the vehicle up to the recommended engine temperature so when they test it most likely or in your case it fails, earning them a few more quid to add their product into the system most often not needed if the customer makes sure their engine before the mot is up to temp.

when people say oh my mot was very cheap, most garages will find faults and earn more out of them.
