I think nearly every pub in Ireland serves food too - the ones around me do and I live in a small town, and most that I drive past do as well.
I also seen in the news recently that Weatherspoons has now opened in Dublin and plan to open 50 pubs in Ireland - charging €3.95 a pint.
Yes, we don't have harvester (Although - there is a least one in the North now), but we do have a lot of independent places - and nearly every town has a cafe of some sort - doing cheap meals.Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0 -
When I was over there, I tended to eat lunch out. I don't use the main chains really over here (I've never been to a harvester, hungry horse, toby or whatever they are called) so I wouldn't care about them over there.
I like the bagel bar of the top of my head. But not meat and two veg (I don't eat meat anyhow).
I don't get the hype about whetherspoons, was dragged there by friends, and wasn't that impressed!! Been there twice and that is enough. The Very Right Honourable Lady Tarry of the Alphabetty thread-I just love finding bargains and saving moneyI love to travel as much as I can when I canLife has a way to test you, it's how you deal with this that matters0 -
Personally, I think that it's a good thing that Ireland is not full of chains like
Harvester, and Hungry Horse type places that you get here.
The UK is swamped with them,- all serving the same mediocre fayre!
I have eaten some fantastic food, in Dublin and Cork, and Seafood in Galway better than I have tasted anywhere, apart from maybe Cornwall..0 -
How was it? Just browsing through Overseas forums, and searched under Ireland as going next year, and refound your thread. The Very Right Honourable Lady Tarry of the Alphabetty thread-I just love finding bargains and saving moneyI love to travel as much as I can when I canLife has a way to test you, it's how you deal with this that matters0

I'm also assume that the OP had a great time. I was in Donegal for 4 days in July and it wasn't that expensive. Of course I did find a cracking hostel/hotel at €25 per night including breakfast. Alcohol is expensive in pubs (I didn't buy any carry outs so don't know if there is the same issue as here) but that is intentional in trying to wean the/us Irish away from the drink.0

Fota Wildlife Park near Cork - amazing place & perfect for Little Miss
In fact you could do a lot worse than spend time around the Cork area
Fota is not exactly the Maasai Mara, it DOES have it's own railway station (but so does my son's train set). I got in for free and thought it was good value for money. In fact you could do a lot worse than spend time around the Cork area

TBH I'm Irish, and I would love to hear visitors responses to their visits.
This might be a small country by international standards, but honestly I haven't seen the half of it yet!
Next year.....0 -

You did ask,
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Some of the locals think it has a certain something, I keep asking what? It's nearly the most boring place on earth. Obviously Wales in number 2, I've been there dozens of times (because I have to!) Ireland not Wales.Turning left avoids some of the idiots (only some)0 -
Cannot add anything regarding Dublin/Ireland but just wanted to say "enjoy your Freda. As an owner of a Bongo for just a year now, cannot imagine how we managed without it. Good decision .... really hope you enjoy your hols.
