Did the op ask about Devon and Cornwall, or did she ask about Ireland? Good grief, how hard is to to answer the question that has actually been asked!!
Fwiw, I think Cornwall is hugely overated and ridiculously expensive, and would never spend a summer holiday there again, having felt ripped off big time the last time we went.

Isn't that what a forum is about?

You and Tom may believe that you are the thought and opinion police, but debate is alive and well and a forum really isn't the place to be if you don't agree with that.
I too would much rather go to Cornwall and Devon.

    Tom:

Discussing attitude toward people is ironic considering your dislike for Arabs - which you justify by throwing in misogyny on a global scale.
The OP will see what I mean about Ireland, just like most people that go to Dublin see how overrated it is.

Dublin is a bit overarted, but I don't agree that the whole country is iffy and the people arrogant.

I have been over quite a few times and loved it there, never camped there, but in General, the people are lovely, albeit a little Loopy at times, especially in the bars later on. There are a number of lovely towns to visit along the East coast and slightly inland.

Maybe a little too far for you to travel to OP, but my favourite place was Galway, beautiful city, built on the side of a river.

OP, Enjoy your holiday there, there are loads of shops that are similar prices to here, it will take you a little while to get used to the accents, but in all a great country, with great people.

I presume Ireland is on par with Benidorm, to one of the posters on here. OP Take no notice, he seems to be going through a phase at the moment.

    I don't think Dublin is over-rated.
Bits of it I don't like - like Temple Bar -other bits are gorgeous. I could say the same about London though......or Paris........or New York.
People are people the world over good and bad -but I like the Irish philosophical approach to life despite the odd bigot.

I think on balance if I had to choose between a work posting to Dublin ....or Belfast or Derry (my company has a presence in all three) I'd choose Dublin. I say this as a Londoner with a mother from Dublin and grandfather from Derry.

    Dublin Zoo is really good.

if the weather is good, the beaches along the Wexford Coast are amazing. You could visit Ferrycarrig ( http://www.inhp.com ) Kilkenny Castle, National Sealife Centre in Bray is really good too.

Goodness, I didn't think this question could result in such comments! We are looking to enjoy the beauty of the place rather than explore their economic situation, and I judge the people that I meet by how I find them!! So thanks Mr Wang, but not really the advice I was looking for.

Thank you to everybody else for replying - some great suggestions that I am looking into now. Apologies for not thanking you sooner, but I forgot to subscribe to the thread and assumed nobody had replied as I didn't get any notifications!

Just a quick ask about Dublin - obviously we are not looking at nightlife etc, but I had the impression it was a beautiful city to visit aside from the pubs (or have I read too many Maeve Binchy novels??). Is there nothing worth visiting in the daytime? We will check out Dublin Zoo, thanks jillie1974, as Little Miss is obsessed with animals :-)

Dublin is a great city - yes the nightlife is a major part of it, but not all that Dublin is about.

The Zoo and Pheonix Park are great, and just walking around Dublin along the Liffey is lovely, i love just soaking up the atmosphere.

As you are coming into Rosslare, you could do a loop, through Waterford, Cork, Kerry, through Limerick and up to Dublin.

Kerry is IMO the most beautiful county in Ireland, lakes of Killarney and the Ring of Kerry are so scenic, I love it!

In Waterford, I would head to Tramore, which is a typical seaside town really, with waterworld, amusements etc, plenty to keep your toddler happy.

Alternatively, you could simply spend a few days in Wexford (Courttown could have potential as its another seaside town), then head up through Wicklow, and spend a few days the scenic Wicklow Mountains etc, before heading into Dublin to spean a few days there before getting the boat.

Take a look at a map of Ireland, plan your route and once you have decided I'll give you more advice if i can.
