Reeeeally eager to exchange and complete - it is dragging

I am in the process of buying my first house and it is taking ages.
I have the mortgage offer, my solicitors have all the search results back and we are now just waiting for the sellers solicitors to be at the same stage so we can exchange.
I am hoping to complete on either 18th July which is seeming less likely. If 18th fails then hopefully 25th July will happen.
My solicitors have chased the sellers solicitors and asked about possible completion dates to which the sellers solicitors replied to state that as they arent in a position to exchange they dont want to discuss completion dates.
We just want this to get moving! We agreed to buy the house early May!!
Hurrrrrrry up.

How long is the chain above them?
Phone the EA you offered through. Ask them why their vendors are stalling.0 -
The people they are buying from are going in to rented accommodation. So that is it.
We spoke with the EA last week and they spoke to them and apparently there was a delay getting the draft contracts from the people they were purchasing from so were a couple of weeks behind us. We got our searches back two weeks this Thursday.0 -
I feel your pain - I'm in a similar boat!0

Keep chasing the EA. It's their job to chase the chain and push it forward. I've found this far more efficient than getting my solicitor to try and do this in the past.
Have the people at the top of the chain said how long they want between exchange and completion? People going into rented often want a couple of weeks, as they can't sign the lease for a rented place until after exchange...0 -
I have no idea to be honest about the top part of the chain. From day one we were aiming for 25th July. And back in early May I thought it would be sooner than that.0

That is nothing!!! We are waiting on a property we had our offer accepted in December!! there are no words!! Especially as there is absolutely no chain - we were hoping to exchange this week but our solicitor is still waiting for information on ground rent and things before we can get the contracts. reaaaally hoping we can get them exchanged next week!!! All our furniture has been delivered and is sitting in my grandmothers conservatory and living room - definitely not practical! !0 -
Early May? You're doing well. It's taken me 11 weeks to complete both times I bought and that was pretty fast as these things go. The last few weeks are always a drag, I'm afraid, so hope the air clears soon.0
-
We are in week 9 already and want to complete in just under 3 weeks possibly 4, so that would take it to 12-13 weeks.0
-
Everyone in the chain has to complete on the same day (unless your vendor is prepared to complete on their sale and move into temporary accommodation - unlikely), so the top of the chain's wishes regarding completion date will affect you.0

It's been 2 months that is not taking ages. It's quite normal for it to take 2-3 months without a chain and with a chain it can take a bit longer. Be thankful you aren't in my situation which has taken 16 1/2 months from when the offer was accepted and finally due to exchange and complete tomorrow!Starting Mortgage Balance: £264,800 (8th Aug 2014)
Current Mortgage Balance: £269,750 (18th April 2016)0
