    I'm amazed that posters have managed to make a hole deep enough for a screw by bashing it in...

    I presume we must be talking plaster board? There's no way I'd be able to do the same... My walls have had the better of many a masonry drill bit and have even come out on top versus my brand new cordless drill...

    BTW if you don't have rawl plugs, matchsticks can get you out of pickles sometimes. Not ideal, but I've botched things before when matchsticks have helped pack a hole enough for a strong screw fixing. It's a bodge, but it works when you're out of options, and what everyone used to use before rawl plugs existed ;-)

    Because each time I wrote on the DIY forum people do not respond to questions, I know from previous experience people respond here more(though not always politely)

    Anyway I should of mentioned it is the wooden blocks above window frame that are designed to attach curtain poles to I meant not the bare wall
