Did you realise you just posted the same thing twice?
EDIT : also forgot to say I have used a drill before so no worry of that, and have used this method on other things before though that was weaker walls and I used wall plugs.0 -

Yes though just verbal and it was from the LL themselves as they knew there was no blinds or curtains in the room I want to do it too, they also know I have no experience at doing it they are just happy if the job is done not the quality. I asked the same when I wanted to put some cabling through the wall for a sky box and was told it was fine but didnt need to in the end since a hole for a unattached aerial was there so I just feed cable through that and went outside on a ladder and connected it to the sky dish.0 -
It is possible to put up a curtain rail without using a drill. My Mum is ridiculously stubborn and refused to use a drill despite me offering to lend mine - instead she hammered a screwdriver into the wall to create the holes and then put the wall plugs into these. You should definitely use the wall plugs though, as they are what make it sturdy. Screwing straight into the wall means the rail will almost certainly work loose over time - wall plugs expand slightly once you've fastened the screws into them and have a much better grip.0

This is one bizarre thread.0

Back in the day of course you didn't need a drill; rawlplugs were put in with a hammer and star-chisel.0

Of course any-one can come up with terrible ways to do the job, it doesn't mean they should...
If you were to look at her curtain rail, you'd never guess how she put it up. Just because it's not the 'normal' way doesn't automatically mean it's terrible, but of course there is more risk of messing it up whilst you're doing it which is why it's best to do it properly.
I wouldn't recommend someone cut corners when carrying out more 'serious' DIY, but I think it's unlikely there'd be any major consequences of being a bit creative with putting a curtain rail up.0 -
That's brave. I'd have just used masking tape to hold up lightweight nets until I could find/afford somebody to do it for me ... which, in my last house, turned out to be a few years
I hate curtains/poles and the thought of having to choose/decide and get them fitted!
You're right, not everybody's able/capable and tooled up.0
