Can I join please?
My food budget for the month including pets, cleaning etc is £400 which is high for me but I am restocking my freezer this month.
I'm off to buy some knitting needles so I can avoid TV!

Dilemma - I really need this sort of frugal July, but I have 3 weekends away booked that can't be cancelled (family ruby wedding party, christening, and visitng OH family in Ireland as a family member is over from Canada for the first time in 20 years - OH hasn't seen him since he was a child). Accomodation is all paid for, food is sorted as we will be with family and can bring packed meals for travelling. Flight is paid for, but the other two will need petrol.
NSK - Can I still be part of the challenge and go to these? It could be just the focus I need to go to these events and NOT have a mindset of 'well, I'm away, I wouldn't normally but...'. However, if you think best not I'll sit out July and Join you again in August. Either way, loads of luck everyone!Mortgage December 2023: TBC

CEW - thank you for that comment. I am aware Stewby likes number 8 but as I have not heard from her (unless I am being stupid) I can't assume she will want to join in - but thank you for being accommodating as well.
Mumofthetwins (yikes) and Homemademama - you are in and numbered.
MagicCat it seems like you have planned things to a tee already so you have been numbered. Just keep everything in check while you are away!“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent".0 -
I'm in please after a confusing June where my budgets went a bit to pot.
I have five events planned for the month so far, none of which I can really cancel. Three I have tickets for already, one is meeting a friend from MSE in the Botanic Gardens (I'll be picnicking!) and the final one is a meal out at a monthly vegan night. My friend is vegan and it's nice to be able to go out for a meal with her where she doesn't have to worry about what's hidden in the food! It's under £20 for three courses and I've already budgeted for it. Hopefully that's allowed? *bats eyelashes at NSK*0 -
Hooray! Thanks NSK! It is a great co-incidence that 18 is my lucky number so I am hoping good things for July.
So - a Plan. I am determined to make the SFDs this month, and am going for 160 in groceries - a bit scared as I didn't make the 180 I tried for last month, but we have allotment stuff nearly ready so if the worst comes to the worst I can try to like on beetroot and gooseberries! Petrol is high as driving to two weekends away, and have to drive for work (different clinics often 10-15 miles apart with lots of equipment and only 45mins to get there mean other options don't really work), but will aim to walk for short trips - possibly shopping as this should make me buy less!
I can borrow a pedometer from work to start tracking my steps, and try to increase day to day activity, and will keep going to the gym as now. Need to get running again.
TV should be fine, I don't watch a lot but tend to have it on as background, which can stop. NSK, can I just check, could I save it up and watch a DVD with OH at weekends?
No buying clothes, beauty products etc - arrgh! *resists impulse to quickly go and buy now, today to get me through July... No, this is great - I need this discipline! I cut my own hair last month thanks to these challenges, which I never thought I'd do, so I'm sure I can manage!
Other things - I have some things from the house renovation we won't be using (e.eg kitchen cabinets that can't go back up now the wall is gone!) so will get freecycling to see if they are of use for anyone. Instead of buying, will try to freecycle or otherwise freely obtain some bits I need for the house, but setting a low budget to get some paint for kitchen. Will see how I go! It's also my godson's birthday at the end of July, and a friend's birthday this weekend, so budget set.
Also need to lose the lbs gained last month, so setting a 7lb target. No personal budget for chocolate/treats this month, so that must help!
Good luck everyone! :money:

Binge on Wimbledon and turn the telly off for the rest of the month?
Watching it online via iPlayer isn't *technically* a TV0 -
Sadly I'm not in this month. I have lots events on which are all planned and budgeted for and I can't commit to all the rules. I'll still work with NSKs ground rules though and be back for AugustSquirrelling away in September No 33It's not about the money, it's about financial freedom, being in control of it and living in the natural world and not a material world0

This is pretty much what I do anyway to be honest. If NSK is OK with that, I am happy to do that0
