I was just about to close the case and refund but noticed she's no longer a registered ebay member?

Can anyone advise me what to do in this situation? If the case continues and automatically closes or is escalated what happens to the money?
I would leave it to ebay to decide. If they refund her you are no worse off as you are willing to refund. Insist on only communicating through ebay. Ignore any other emails from her.

That's not quite correct. If the buyer escalates and it rules in their favour, the seller will have a 'closed without seller resolution' mark on their dashboard. The percentages for these mean some sellers can only have a couple a year before they are booted off.

I know that if an account gets used fraudulently, they will never bring it back for any reason, I didn't know accounts could just go unregistered and registered again for minor problems like payments.

Personally I would find it very suspicious that an account was closed with a case open and to me it would point to a buyer scamming lowish value items as INR and getting caught by ebay.

So I would ignore all communications and let fate decide the outcome.

It isn't suspicious at all. An account can be naru'd for many unsuspisious reasons.......their eBay payment fails, two many policy strikes for erroneous reasons such as duplicate listings.....the list is endless.
