Do I need to have data roaming on in Ireland?

Yes its T-Mobile which is EE. OK so I leave data roaming off but why can't I connect to 'normal' services? What setting would that be? Nexus 5 Android 4.4.
Really appreciate help so far.
You can turn it back on. As aforementioned, you can't Data Roam with T-Mobile without purchasing a Data Bundle.Make sure data roaming is enabled on your phone, Open your internet browser to purchase.
The internet won’t work on your phone abroad unless you buy a Booster. This is to prevent you running up a large bill for internet usage by mistake.
If your Booster runs out and you need more internet, we’ll give you the option to buy another one. It’s as simple as that.
When you switch it back on then attempt to browse, you should be taken to a page wherein you can select the bundle that you want.

Alternatively, if your phone isn't SIM locked, get a local SIM for the duration.0 -
But my problem is not lack of data roaming. I don't NEED data. Just normal calls and texts while away from WiFi which I will be for the next few days. Can I get that without data roaming?0

Oh I think I see what you mean. Turn data back on just don't buy any data bundle because I don't need to browse unless on WiFi. Is that it?0

Data and roaming are two separate things so you need to have roaming enabled but set data to offNow free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
You can leave both on in any case....with T-Mobile.0

Tried various combinations of that. No luck yet. Went to Settings.. More..mobile networks.. Preferred type..and set it from 4g to 3g then tried to select a network. Nothing. Giving up for today. At least family's phones are fine. Just can't go off by myself like I was planning0
