Arrived in Ireland a few days ago. Cant get ANY signal on my Google nexus 5 phone which is fairly new. Never had coverage problems here before and rest of family's phones (non 4g) are fine.

Do I need to switch data roaming back on? And will this lead to huge charges? Don't need 4g basic coverage would be fine. Can't get any useful info from EE - T-Mobile website. Finally managed to connect to some free WiFi and its taken me 15 mins to type this :p

  • Just been in Ireland for a week - it is classified as "abroad". Switched my data roaming off so that I wouldn't (accidentally of course !) get any large bills,
    Sent a few texts - cost me £1.10.

    "3" republic is part of the included data.

    On EE it costs £3 per 100mb and bundles last 24 hours - the thing I like about this sytem is that you only pay for the budles you buy so never any risk of "bill shock" when you get home.

    Yes I mean the Republic. So are you sure data is included? I'm surprised by that since I had a text message on arrival telling me about the call charges etc. Just haven't been able to connect to a network since then.

    Is your phone set up to work abroad? If it wasn't you would be able to connect to wifi but not use 3G/4G.
    The cost of using it in Eire will be roughly similar to using it in any other European country. Generally data is not only not included but is charged at a significantly higher rate.

    keep your data roaming off in the Republic of Ireland or you will incur big fees.

    There is a warning to that effect on the Nexus 5 when you turn Data roaming on

    There are plenty of free wifi places

    Bye the way, there is a mobile board at MSE;

    Depends who your provider is... the Republic of Ireland is one of Three's "feel at home" countries so no extra charge for data with them (within your allowance of course)http://www.three.co.uk/Discover/Phones/Feel_At_Home
    Now free from the incompetence of vodafail

    Yes its T-Mobile which is EE. OK so I leave data roaming off but why can't I connect to 'normal' services? What setting would that be? Nexus 5 Android 4.4.

    Really appreciate help so far.
