Acrobat 8

  • This is still all speculation as the OP did actually say "Acrobat 8" which is NOT free to download.

    Point noted, apologies for that.....

Assuming he meant Adobe Acrobat Reader 8, there is in fact a new version that came out recently v8.1.

However, having downloaded it takes up over 100MB on my HDD which makes it bloatware - all it is is a reader so quite why it needs 100MB+ puzzles me.

Instead I'd recommend you try Foxit Reader 2.0 which is free and takes up far less room on your HD whilst offering pretty much all what Acrobat Reader 8.1 has to offer.

If the poster meant Acrobat and not its reader, then ignore my post.

But upgrading to 8 is the suggested fix. So again define "safe".

That post was the reference for post#6 which itself was a response to post#5 not the OP. The article was purely about the event I had in memory and wasn't a "solution" for the OP's question. The entire theme of this thread is that there is no answer because the OP hasn't made clear what the question is, as I said right from the beginning in my first response which I believe is problably the only suitable response on the thread until the OP comes back to clarify.

I agree! people are starting to get involved in a discussion which doesnt exist because only assumptions can be made about what the OP is trying to do!

    quite funny really!

I do mean Adobe Acrobat Reader 8 - I heard that there were lots of bugs and problems with this new version and have been told I had to wait a while till they were fixed or patches issued - How long and when?

Who told you to wait? It'll be fine.

I've not heard of any problems. If you're waiting until it is completely bug free then you shouldn't be using a computer at all (no such thing as bug free software). I've been using version 8 since it first came out without noticing a single bug or crash or anything. And for future reference it's "Adobe Reader 8". Acrobat was dropped from the name to prevent the exact type of confusion that happened in this thread.

Get Foxit Reader (see my previous post).

Adobe Reader 8 is bloatware - like I said why does a PDF reader need to take up 100+MB in hard disk space?
