CBT and get a moped
do an intensive course and pass driving test
bike
electric bike0 -
Crikey I wouldn't fancy leaving home at 4am to cycle 2 hours, work a full day and then a 2 hour cycle home again (or maybe you can train home with the bike).
I think your best bet for gap before you pass your test would be a 4 night B and B or a car share (but 6 am wil make that difficult I expect).
Congrats on the super job offer tho'."'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life

Have you looked at https://www.airbnb.co.uk
They have some very good prices for renting a room in a private house. You would only need to rent for four nights and could weigh up the cost of this against your train fare. This is presuming you don't need to return home each night.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
Thanks for all the responses.
That CBT Motorbike thing sounds interesting! Only takes a week to pass your test!0 -

OK, that changes things obviously!
You may be really lucky with someone else making the commute as well though obviously won't know until you've started.
You could possibly do a mix of B&B/sofa rental and train tickets, depending on how often you start early and how it works out cost-wise.
(I've had an apprentice cycling approx. this distance every day - not suggesting you do this as I certainly wouldn't want to!)0 -
If it's only for a few months, why not look for a cheap B&B nearby for when you have an early or late shift and just stay there on those days, then get the train home when you're on the day shift? You might find that you make friends quickly too and somebody might let you stay over when you need to.0

Why not? I leave at 04.30 to do 1.5 hours each way on a bike, 20 miles or so. Okay, its a bit of a shock when I first started doing it, but you soon get used to it. Also means you keep all that money you're earning, rather than spending it on car/petrol/insurance etc, or railway fares. And also keeps you fit and healthy. And certainly wakes you up, and helps you work better during the day!I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0 -
How does the train fare+travel time compare to 4 nights B&B or a room rental?0

I would second CBT/bike option.0

what's your current accommodation situation?
(don't think we have seen that yet)0
